Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have an HP G70-463CL that will not boot. No video, the power on light comes on along with the wifi light for a moment and then goes off and then comes back on. The hard drive does not appear to be spinning. The CPU fan is working. I have tried pulling the battery and power plug and pressing the power on button for 15 to 30 seconds and then trying to power up (hard reset), with no success. I have performed a RAM memory seat test with no success. I have also tried powering up with HD and RAM removed with no success. The screen remains blank. I have also tried using an external monitor with no success. Is this a CPU or MoBo problem? Any other ideas??

Sounds like your psu has gone, ive had the same issue but to make sure of its the psu unplug the hard drives sata or ide cable and turn start the computer, if the drive does not start its most likely the psu but if it does then the mothebroard was stopping the drive from not starting in the first place which could be the psu or motherboard...

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot
Go to 'Start' and then Run
write "msconfig" inside Run tab and press 'enter'
inside the 'System configuration utility' window click on 'startup' tab then uncheck all the applications except your current antivirus and press apply then 'ok' and then 'exit without restart' option.

Now right click My Computer and go to properties tab.
click 'Advanced' tab then under performance menu click on 'settings'
go to 'Advanced' click on 'change' and increase your virtual memory to 2048 in both spaces.
Now restart windows.

To quickly restart windows press CNTRL+ALt+DEL
inside task manager you will find all the open applications.
right click on each application and click on end process tree then ok

There are many things that might cause your PC to run slowly. It could be a fragmented disk; fragmented registry; a virus, Trojan, or spy ware; high CPU and/or utilization due to too many programs running; high disk I/O; or something else.

To check your CPU and memory utilization, run Task Manager. You can start Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and then clicking on the Task Manager Button. In Task manager, click on the Performance tab and check CPU Usage and PF Usage. PF Usage is an indicator of memory usage. If one or both of these is high, click on the Processes tab, and sort the columns by CPU or Memory to see what processes are consuming the resource. If you are not sure what the process "Image name" is for, Google the name and you should find what the process is for.

If your CPU and memory usage are reasonable, then you may have a different issue. Even if you running anti-virus software, it may be beneficial to scan your PC with another scanner to check for viruses. No anti-virus software is 100% perfect at catching everything. Here are a few good free online virus scanners that you can run to check your PC:

An excellent free utility for overall system maintenance is Advanced System Care Free ( http://download.cnet.com/advanced-systemcare-free/3000-2086_4-10407614 .html ). I use this utility on a regular basis.

You should always run anti-virus software. There are several very good, free, anti-virus products available. One good source to read editor and user reviews, and safely download anti-virus software, is http://download.cnet.com -- search for free antivirus software. In addition to the reviews, you can see how many people are downloading the software, which is another good indicator of how popular it is.

I have used AVG Free ( http://download.cnet.com/avg-anti-virus-free/3000-2239_4-10320142.html ) , and Avast Free ( http://download.cnet.com/avast-free-antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.htm l ). Both are very good, and completely free. At present I am using Avast on all of my home computers.

I have heard good things about Avira AntiVir Free ( http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-22 39_4-10322935.html ), and it has good ratings, but I have not personally tried it.

In addition to Avast or one of the other free anti-virus software packages, I also run Ad-Aware ( http://download.cnet.com/ad-aware-free-internet/3000-8022_4-10045910.h tml ). Ad-Aware is a free anti-malware, anti-spyware package.

Good luck!

Hi
When you say that you slid your finger back and forth on the strip
do you mean the strip along the back of the laptop just below the screen ??
Because on some laptops the wifi switch and cap locks and the mute switch are all along
that strip

so you may of by accident pushed them all and de activated them all
pressing them all in turn should activated them again but if they done
then you could try FN+ the keys that you want to activate

Motherboard is defective & needs to be replaced with a new one.
You can find a replacement motherboard by searching on e-bay.com with the motherboard's model number. This could be found under the RAM.

Ps3 wont boot up.

It's a hardware failure, usually caused by overheating.

You check out this website for some tips, but in most cases you'll have to send it into Sony2_bing.gif for repair.

If you have another PS3 that's similar you can try swapping the power supply unit but you'll need a special T10 Hex screwdriver with a security hole to open the console2_bing.gif.

Hope this info helps.

HP Pavilion M9040N Elite, power lights come on, will not boot

unhook everything that is hooked to it ! Except the keyboard mouse and Display. now try it ! If that doesn't work try to start in safe mode then do a system Restore to an earlier date. there could be a number of things to cause this even a mouse, So one at a time try to remove all that you can and then go from there and one at a time hook all back up until you find it. if not there have to start inside the machine, Doing the same thing/ video, sound,cd roms/floppy/etc.hope you find it in the first round.

HP 7410 will not boot. It powers up and the HP logo screen flashe

This was solved really well on this blog. It is some problem with the wifi board. If you disconnect it (no so hard and well explained on the blog) you will have network printing over a cable but no wireless.

My HP DV1000 will not start.

You have a power issue. The board is not charging the system or the battery. If you know someone with a similar model, ask them if you can borrow their battery and see if your system boots with it. If it does, you may need a new adapter or the power board in the notebook is out. When you remove the battery and try it, there's enough juice to power it up for the moment, but not sustain it.

There's a little utility I use (just because it's quicker than the usual iPaq Wireless screen buttons) called WirelessSwitcher. http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/Utilities.htm Maybe this would do the trick for you.
