First try connecting the MP3 player to a different computer.
If this does not work then try an different or new USB cable.

1 Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip, if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display. Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off. If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

2 Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager." This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button. Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode. Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then follow the steps to fully recover the GoGear. Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

3 Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing. Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord. Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on. This will begin the charging process of your GoGear. If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced. Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

My philips gogear vibe 8gb is brand new. I charged it and put on music and it was fine for an hour. But now it freezes on the 99% updated screen. I reseted it and i can still usb connect it but after it...

Firstly, I'd suggest that you do a soft reset of your player. You will find the reset button next to the 'power on' button on the side of the player. Please hold the Reset button using a pen tip or other sharp object for 10 seconds. Now turn it on.

If that doesn't work, you can format the player. Provided its recognized by the computer. Contents may be removed by using this function. So make sure to back up your contents. Here is how to do this:

Connect your GoGear player to your PC. On your computer desktop, double-click "My computer". Double-click on the MP3 player's icon. Right-click on the Internal Storage icon and then select "Format". Disconnect it once the format is complete.

If that doesn't work, you can repair the player. To repair it you must have the software that came with the player or you can download it from the Philips suppot site. WWW.philips.com/support/. Players that start with SA1xxxx uses Device manager and the Players that start with SA2xxx uses Philips Songbird.

Here is how to Repair your GoGear MP3 player using Device Manager:

Launch Device Manager and click the Tool menu and select "Repair my Philips GoGear", then follow the instructions to perform the repair process.

Here is how to Repair your GoGear MP3 player using Philips Songbird:

Launch Songbird and then connect your player to your computer. Select "Repair my Philips GoGear" under the "Tools" menu. Follow the instructions given by the pop-up windows to perform the repair process.

*Contents may be removed by using repair and format functions. So make sure to back up your contents.

Hope this helps.
Cheers..

Batterylife,GoGear Vibe 4GB how long between each charge, getting 5 to 6 hours.

The battery life is rated at 25 hours for audio and 4 hours for video. If the charge is not holding you can try ensuring device is secured while charging. If this does not work the battery is bad and should be replaced. This is not horrible news, batteries for the GoGear Vibe 4GB are only $10.00.

My Gogear Vibe MP3 is frozen on the playlist screen. Won't change screens, won't turn off, doesn't do anything when you plug it ino the pc

Try Resetting it, by getting a sharp edge (something) and pressing the button on the left side of the device..if that doesnt work, try waiting for the battery to die, the reset, then try charging it again. Hope this helps.(:

My Gogear Vibe will not charge. It also will not turn on when not plugged into the computer. I cannot access the "charge and Play" option for charging. The language randomly changes between turn-ons from...

I had to re-boot my computer not long after plugging the Vibe in to add some music and recharge. When the computer rebooted it seemed to be dead.

After reading the above I pressed the reset button. It came up again.

Now, here's the crux. After it went through its language questions the recharge message said: Charging. Do not unplug. (Or similar.)

I suspect that the Vibe was deeply discharged. I haven't used it for a while and don't recall recharging it after the last use so I'm not surprised to find the battery deeply discharged.

In future I'll be more careful to read its little messages when I plug it in.

I have a gogear vibe and I can't figure how to turn if off-can't find the directions. I'm stupid, I know!

Hello,

There's a manual for the Vibe in pdf format with next link:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/sa1vbe04b_02/sa1vbe04b_02_dfu_eng.pdf

To the Vibe's quick guide:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/sa1vbe04b_02/sa1vbe04b_02_qsg_eng.pdf

Slide the switch on the left side downwards for 2 seconds to put the player off when it's on and repeat for switching the player on again.
When the player does not respond:
Gently push the small RESET button, under the power / lock switch on the left side of the player, with a narrow object.

After the reset turn the player back on and check for normal functions.
Should the player still not react, charge the player for half an hour and
repeat the RESET procedure.

If the player after the previous actions doesn't function correctly, follow the actions using the GoGear Device Manager, starting with step 2 in next link:

Direct to the download for the GoGear Device Manager
