Question about Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera

1 Answer

5700 Camera - Inside photograpy is fine and the flash activates automatically but when the camera is used outside it seems to let too much light in and photos are completely white with shadowy images within when previewed or selected for download.

Brace yourself - I have one of these cameras and twice have had to have the sensor replaced after it started doing similar things to yours.
About all I can suggest is that you have it checked by an authorised Nikon service centre.

My digital camera just stop taking pictures outdoors it still takes pictures inside what is wrong ?

check your settings on the camera see if you have a low light mode and if it is activated or not if so deactivate it , it sound like the camera is telling itself it cannot handle the extra light outside this would indicate low light setting. should you not be able to find setting try taking a picture outside at night see if flash activates if so theory proven

Samsung L50: I get a very blurry - near white image when taking pics outside. Inside the pics look ok, a little blurry though. Movie recording works fine. Help please. Tried changing batteries, reseting...

Check if you are using Auto settings. It seems you are using Manual (M) and the exposure time is too long for outside conditions (inside there is less light).
Switch the camera to Auto and it should work fine. Please let us know how it went.

I bought a used Nikon coolpix 5700, worked fine for awhile, but now when I turn the camera on and press the release button the flash will not pop up or work, in the view screen the "SB" shows in the view...

You don't state whether this happens all of the time or only when the flash is active.

If only when active, then the user manual for your camera states that this indicates the flash on your camera is charging and that if you remove your finger from the shutter button it should clear (p.168). In practice it should also clear with the flash is in the retracted position and the flash function is turned off. If it's due to an actual fault then it can be caused if the capacitor or the thyristor charging circuitry has failed. If so it's uneconomical to repair.

If this is the case, then the cheapest and quickest fix will be to disable the pop up flash in the menu (user manual p.95, Set Up 2 > Speedlight Options > Pop Up > Off) and to then use an external flash unit. This also has the advantage of giving you a far more powerful and better quality flash unit.

If the error message occurs whether the flash is retracted or not, then there's a fault with a tiny button switch which senses when the flash has popped up. As your camera is about eight years old now this will be completely impractical to repair and you can only hope that the camera will ignore it if you disable the internal flash as indicated above.

I hope that you have found my answer to be of use; please remember to take a moment to rate my answer.

Canon G2 flash causes weird orangey-brown shadows around people

sounds like your shutter speed is set too low. If you are in manual exposure control, check that your shutter speed is at least 1/60th or higher. If the camera is in automatic, check to see that you ARE NOT in the "slow-sync" flash mode.

Not good photos indoors very grainy and bad light looking photos

Auto mode in poor lighting (generally always indoors without flash) sets high ISO, which produces ugly amount of noise (graininess). What you need is to keep the ISO under 200 by either:
Shooting well lit scenes, using flash etc.
or
Uusing one of the manual programs (M, S, A, P) and setting the sensitivity via the F-menu.

Re: nikon 5700 faulty flash

I've had this problem and Nikon repaired it twice for me at about Aus$200 each time.

Recently it happened again.

Quite by accident, I found that I could lift the black on-off main switch and that it comes off the camera body quite easily together with the chrome shutter button.

Inside was a little plastic tab with contact points.

Merely blowing off the dust inside and then replacing the shutter button and on-off black ring appear to have solved the problem for me.

However, my viewfinder and lcd were working normally and not black as  lsvettek said.

I did have a problem with the viewfinder and lcd on yet another occasion and this was a recognised fault which Nikon repaired free of charge.
