Question about Yamaha DSP-A3090 7-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

I have the DSP A3090 I need instructions on speaker installation and sound adjustment. It was a gift and I downloaded info to floppy which no longer am able to read .Some of the speakers have apparently got out of adjustment andI am having a time trying to figure how to adjust my 7.1 system with out instructions. I am in particular trying to make sure i have sound in all of my speakers and the more I try the worse it gets. They all appear to get sound in one form or the other. Other times I get no sound out of some of the speakers or the volume adjustment is messed up big time. This all started becoming a problem when my cat took a fancy to chewing on the speaker wire and after trying to figure which wires needed replaced now I can't remember how to adjust the speakers. At this point all I would like them to do is work reasonably well not looking for a highly technical fine adjustment .The test goes silent on some of the speakers but in trying different sound set ups I do get sound out of all speakers.

I need a remote for a Yamaha DSP A3090, Yamaha part VT974300. I'm OK with a universal remote as long as it can access and navigate the on-TV menu.

Be careful - most universal remotes only control the most basic of functions, volume change, channel change, mute, on/off. They rarely include operation of sources, menus, etc.

U are , no doubt, going to need an original unit for the menu access.
Check for remote on ebay or google.

When turning on the power, DSP-A3090 turns itself off in a few seconds. What could be the problem? It sounds to me that some sort of a protection is acting. Is it difficult to fix or not? I will try to fix...

It might require you to register before you download it, but it is free.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Keeps tripping out

Had a very similar problem on a DSP-A1092, found to be the temperature sensor on the heatsink open circuit. I fitted a variable resistor to mine and adjusted it to just below the specified resistance of the temp sensor (I had the service manual at the time). Permanently cured the fault. As the amp never ran hot,it was not a problem if well ventilated. Of course it could also be shorted speaker wires at any of the outputs too.

Hi...
Is the first set "stereo" settings and the 2nd set "surround" settings?
If so that may mean that the surround speakers arent all connected right.

Yamaha DSP-A3090 sound problem when viewing movies

Sounds like a cold solder joint around the imput to the power amp stage on the board. If you can get to the board take a bright lamp and a magnifying glass to chek for solder joints that are frosty looking .If so heat them up and dab solder to make them shiny.
Good Luck
