The software that came with my printer was for XP. My computer runs Vista. How can I get an upgraded driver for the printer to be used with the new computer?
If you are not able to find the required driver, please tell me your printer model number, I will give you the direct link. But its not good to rate like this........m really very unhappy from your rating.
Thanks for your rating.

OmniForm 5.0 is not Vista compatible. The printer drivers are different in XP and Vista so the patch that let printer drivers run under XP won't help. As far as I can tell, Nuance does not have any upgrades for this software for Vista or Win7.
A very inconvenient workaround exists: install XP on your computer for a dual-boot computer.
You should download the same software from the official site of that third party. For example if it is provided by Microsoft, find the compatible version of that software for Vista. If you mention the name of that software. sometimes I can further assist you.
Just update your driver by downloading printer driver support for Vista on your manufacturers support site. From there you may have to download Printer driver for Vista and Patch/Upgrade.
Run Patch/Upgrade first (requires you to restart computer) before installing the printer driver.
Did you do a upgrade to vista from xp? Or is the computer with vista a different computer? The reason why I ask is if you did an upgrade the old drivers and software for xp may still be in the system. The first thing I would do is go into the device manager and remove the printer and un-install any software for the printer. Re-boot the computer and windows vista should detect the new hardware. I would let vista check online for the driver and install it. If it cant't find one the choose the driver you downloaded online. After that then try installing the printer software. Also make sure that when you go to print something that your printer is set up as the default printer.
My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it. Fast Forward: Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available. I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.
It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.
