    what is the j1connector?

  • mike rondeau May 20, 2011

it does not respond at all. the orange icon on the front remains lit and orange. there is no response at all. when i try to turn it on it does not blink or anything and there are also no response at all in the back of the tv. i dont here any clicking in the tv either.

  • mike rondeau May 20, 2011

So do you think that both tvs need the power supply replaced? If the capacitors look good could it be that there is a way to repair the supply instead of replacing the whole thing?

  • mike rondeau May 20, 2011

When I accept your solution is that how you get a vote or do I accept your solution and also vote?

  • mike rondeau May 20, 2011

So do you think that if I touched up all the solder joints that could likely be the problem?

  • mike rondeau May 21, 2011

Thank you for the very excellent advice and spectacular communication!

T-con and inverter boards are not related to this problem so you might as well return them for a refund. When you try to power it on what is the status of the LED at the front ? Does it remain in standby mode or does it turn on but does not respond to any command?

If you do not hear any kind of clicking noise when you try to power it up then you can be assured that its a power supply board issue as the relays are not turning on at all. So here's the plan. Get me part number off the power supply board and I will find you a replacement. I can tell you for sure that its not the T-con or backlight inverter as when one of these go bad you will have sound but no picture and all other features would workchanging channels etc.)

Well it can be probably fixed but component level requires a proper service manual, multimeter nad excellent soldering skills. Besides the power supply costs only about 50-75$ so that would be the best way forward. And yes you just have to accept by clicking the accept button next to my solution. That will be counted as a vote.

I don't think its a solder joints issue. There is a short in one of the 5v, 24v or 12v lines. We should find the component thats causing the short and replace it. It can be anything like a diode, resistor, voltage regulator. If you have a multimeter and know how to use it we can give it a shot. Just touching the solder joiints wont do you any good

Good day!

if you don't have any bulged top capacitors on the power supply.

Please try this procedure on how to fix that problem.

  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.
  2. look for the power supply board.
  3. check the output voltage of your power supply. It should have 5vdc for the main board,12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the inverter using multimeter (range on DC)
  4. If the said voltage have no reading or have an voltage drop. The problem could be on the power supply board.
  5. If the output voltage is complete and the voltage is all OK.The problem could be the main board or system board. Its not for D.I.Y because the component of that board is surface mount and its very sensitive. Please replace it with a new one.
I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

Your unit is standby mode only. Since you've already replace the power supply board, this is not the issue why the unit didn't power up. Replaced the EEPROM in the main board. This is a 8-pin IC (TA24C16BN) part no. 0430-3011-3011. Most of this symptom was caused by faulty EEPROM.

Vizio vw42lhdtv10a 42" vizio will not turn on the vizio light is orange when tv not on and white when tv is on it turns white but i get no video or audio the screen doesnt change like it even wants to come...

check out the power supply board! Look for popped capacitors. They either leak or swell up. They are the can shaped things on the board with the plastic coverings on them...you can usually see a swollen cap sticking up over its covering as a telltale sign.

Good luck and be careful
