Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Plus side by side with Ice maker and water dispenser in the door. I have replaced both water valves and still cannot get water to the ice maker. The water to the water dispenser in the door works fine. What could the problem be? Model # is MSD2758DRB.

First you need to make sure the ice maker works. One way to test it is to manually put water into the ice maker and wait a few hours and see if it pushed the ice out. If it did not you need to find out why the ice maker does not work. There are many reasons for that; that would be a new chapter. If the ice maker does dispense the ice but does not turn on the valve you would need to find a loose connection. There is a way to test the "water fill" after removing the ice maker, but it is a little tricky. Then also, sometimes the fill tube inside the freezer freezes; that is another problem al together.

This is an odd one!The water control valves has separate sets of wiring that travel through the dispenser control board. That gives an opportunity for strange things to happen as mentioned in your post. If you haven't replaced the dual water control valve and put the wires back wrong the next thing will be to test the 61005274 Dispenser Control Board

If you have a OHM meter and a voltage testing meter I don't mind helping you to test the wires and 61005274 Dispenser Control Board I can send you to a link to view the wiring diagram and walk you through the diagnostics. Let me know, Thank you, John T

if the water is stored in a container matrix in the fridge (to cool it down b4 dispensing) it may have frozen up. best give the unit a complete defrost to see if this is occuring, if so the thermistors may be faulty.

Maytag MSD2272VEB00 leaking water

Laura,
Your water dispenser is controlled by a solenoid valve that is often in tandem with the ice maker water valve (meaning two valves side by side). Check and make sure the water is dripping from the water outlet tube only, in which case the solenoid valve is leaking. However...sometimes what happens is that the door that isolates the ice shoot (and the inside of the freezer) from the outside can get stuck open. Either blocked, mineral build up, broken etc..and water (melting ice) will drip down and out. This can lead to other problems so be sure the flapper door from the ice dispenser is ALL the way closed.

Maytag sidebyside MSD2758DRW ice maker won't make ice

Hi,

If the ice maker no longer make ice, check the following.

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on.

On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice.

Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

Thanks

The ice maker quit working but I still get water from the door dispenser. It's a Maytag model MSD2456DEW

I know this is late but I will tell you that most times the water control valve on the rear of refrigerator is the reason for the ice maker not to refill. Yours uses a part number 61005626 dual water control. One side for dispenser and the other side for the ice maker. You may test the ice maker to insure that it works by filling with tap water. Let freeze and if it dumps the then ice maker will try to refill after each cycle. If the water control valve works it will refill. Let me know if you still need assistance. Thank You, Sea Breeze

The in-door water stopped working. The ice maker still gets water, but there is no water coming out of the door dispenser.

You more than likely have a bad water valve. Unfortunately, the water valve is a double valve ,one side services the ice maker, the other side the water dispenser.Even though the ice maker is getting water the whole valve has to be replaced. Hope this helps

Water dispenser on front of refrigerator door does not dispense water. Ice Cube maker continues to make ice cubes. Defrosting doesn't fix problem.

Water dispensing solenoid is bad. You need to replace the solenoid valve. This typically is independent of the ice maker.

Do you get water to the connector at the bottom of the freezer door ? if you do then the water pipe in the door is probably frozen - read new door ! if not then check thw electrical connector at the bottom of the freezer door as they have a habit of corroding.

Kenmore Ice Maker

Sounds like a water valve problem to me. Force the ice maker to cycle. (turn it off and let it get cold for at least an hour then turn it back on). Test for voltage on the ice maker side of the valve. The valve is usually in the back near the floor. Just follow the water line. Another solution. switch the wires on the water valve. then try the water dispenser and see if it makes the ice maker fill up. See if when the ice maker cycles water comes out the door. If the ice maker causes water in the door , replace the valve, If door switch causes ice maker to fill up replace ice maker again.
