HI There,

I recommend using the computer you posted this with to download "Hiren's Boot CD 11". Burn the CD and boot from it (it will take over the BIOS order normally). It has a windows password breaker. If this does not meet your needs, use KONBOOT on the same cd which bypasses all passwords and you can recover files if that is your aim.

If I've assumed you're a more advanced user than is the case, please accept my apologies and be kind enough not to destroy my rating here <friendly grin>.

Regards,

Selk

You can either remember it to use your hdd or purchase a new hdd and start again with a fresh OS then restoring your data from your backups.

Why is admin PW locked?

BIOS passwords can add an extra layer of security for desktop and laptop computers. They are used to either prevent a user from changing the BIOS settings or to prevent the PC from booting without a password. Unfortunately, BIOS passwords can also be a liability if a user forgets their password, or changes the password to intentionally lock out the corporate IT department. Sending the unit back to the manufacturer to have the BIOS reset can be expensive and is usually not covered in the warranty. Never fear, all is not lost. There are a few known back doors and other tricks of the trade that can be used to bypass or reset the BIOS

Lock on the computer

If hard drive encrypted / locked or bios locked then you will need to contact dell and give them your asset tag and they will be able to generate a backdoor password you can use to get back into the bios and then you can reset or disable the passwords / encryption.

If password for windows then you can use trinity rescue kit

http://trinityhome.org/Home/index.php?wpid=1&front_id=12

Which will allow you to reset the passwords and other things.

If its just a case of wanting a fresh install of the operating system then get the installation disc for the operating system and re install.

You should be able to get one from ebay or elsewhere.

A reliable method can be found here:

look for Password recovery.

Try the backdoor password Dell

Christophe Grenier has written a program that will calculate the master BIOS password for Dell Latitudes from the Service Tag number. That program is available at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~sk...s/latitude.exe.
