Question about InFocus IN83 Projector

1 Answer

Infocus Projector IN83 is overheating and shutting down every 20 minutes or so. Talking with online assistance suggested that I replace the bulb so I bought a $200 new bulb assembly and it has already overheated once....I also noticed a considerable amount of hot air pumping out of the vent so I am not sure if that is normal or is it not suppose to be so hot...I am pretty good at fixing appliances via internet help so i am hoping that I can finally get this issue fixed for good w/o having to spend too much more....Once it overheats and shuts off the tempature bulb is lit at the bottom instead of the ON (Green) or OFF (Amber) lights...That pretty much sums it up!

I had the same problem so removed the bulb which is very easy, only 3 screws, found the wire mesh inside was covered in dust so vacuumed using a brush head attachment, removed all the dust & did the same to all the external vents too. The projector now runs smoother, quieter & does not over heat after hours of continual play. Hope this helps, Chris

SOURCE: Infocus x1a projector shuts down after 30 seconds - dust problem ??

Most likely, if it is a thermal problem, your main cooling fan has quit or is stopping after a short period. The problem is, I've seen several of these do this, and in every case, it is not the fan that has failed, but the Controller Board. And that is a very expensive part.

Yeah, strange enough the lamp timer was already reset. I think whomever had this projector before me had tested it before selling it. Thanks for the response, though!

I experienced the same thing, only to discover it was the ballast that powers the lamp. I believe INFOCUS repairs for $390.00 per the technician that I spoke with on the phone at INFOCUS.

The fan is probably on it's way out and cannot produce enough air flow to cool the lamp. Replace the fan with the same ratings as the original and it should work fine. The only other thing would be a problem with the power supply not supplying enough power to the fan, but, a bad fan is more likely.

firdt off, did you reset the lamp counter? did you clean the dust out of the projector? it may be overheating as well. if the lamp looks ok, you may have just blown the ballast. try projector doctor online.

it's the fan. if it won't spin full power, it can't cool down the projector and it'll shut down. there are 2: 60mm (part # 526-0153-00) and 80mm (526-0152-00). both can be purchased from infocus or an infocus service center.

go into the menu to find out the lamp hours. it could be the lamp, but if the projector shuts down and not just the lamp, there is either an overheating issue, or a power supply issue.

InFocus LP725 light goes out after 10 minutes

The Projector will turn off after so many hours of running the same bulb module. The counter will turn on a replace bulb LED. Installing the new bulb module should reset the counter and turn off the LED.

Check the projector’s lamp to ensure that it is securely connected
in the lamp module. Make sure by removing it and reinserting it.

Check the cables for problems.

When testing, power up in this order. Projector, Computer monitor, Computer.

A minor power surge may cause the lamp to shut off. Turn the
projector off, wait at least 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

I hope these suggestions help
