U have to go with a professinol repairer
Hi,
Is the smell rubber or electrical? If rubber then the belt is slipping
and needs to be replaced, they stretch after awhile. Also is the brush
roll turning freely, or is it bound up, it may have to be replaced. If
the smell is electrical, then probably the motor is going bad and will
have to be replaced.
Also ry to hear where the source of the noise is coming from. If it's
coming from the motor area, you probably have a broken fan in the motor
and need to replace the fan (very common in vacuums where dirt goes
through the motor instead of bypassing). If the noise is coming from
the brush area of the vacuum, you probably have a broken bearing in
your brush roller and would need to replace the brush itself, or the
body is worn where the brush is mounted to the vacuum, in which case
you would need to buy a new vacuum.
1. Be sure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged. The lower handle screw and
the handle must be removed. If there is an accessory hose, remove it.
2. Turning the vacuum cleaner over, remove the top cover screws. Then
turn the machine right side up again and shift the height adjustment
out of the way. Then you can lift off the cover.
3. Remove the brush roller (beater bar) and drive belt and then remove
the motor. The motor clamp is secured by a screw that must be removed.
When you reinstall the parts, be sure you do not damage the gasket at
the other end of the motor.
Be sure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged. First you remove the dust bag,
filter, and all hoses. Take off the cover screws and then lift off the
cover so you can access the motor and electrical components.
ok,please click on the below link.I know it is not exactly your model but if the vacuum looks exactly like the on there then you can follow the instructions.

the process you provide doesn't relate to the Bissell 8975 (eg. it doesn't have a bag)
Tried to follow your instructions for accessing the motor but still can't do it. think you're refering to a different model. appreciate the attempt though

i still have no idea of how to access the motor. if i did then your latest advice would probably be applicable.
i've removed about 3 pounds of philips screws from the machine but still cannot get into the motor.
think from your latest probably the motor bearings are the problem.
since no one seems to know how to service a bissell model 8965, i would like to get a refund. please advise how to do that.
