Took ford escape to the mechanic for brakes/oil change. I got it back last night and immediately noticed that the dome lights were intermittantly coming on and off. I called the mechanic back and he said that it was a coincidence and that year 2003 escapes are known to commonly have this problem. Now the lights just will not shut off and I am afraid my battery will die. I would like to fix it myself

My dome light will not go out.

Check the light switch if it's off position for dome light. Or check your door switch if is making contact with door panel. If all of this are good. You have an bad door switch.

Oil light is flashing

Check oil level immediately. Do not operate engine if oil level is good and light still persists. About the only other thing to try is changing the oil sensor. A mechanic can place a testing pressure gauge in the sender port to verify oil pressure and if it bad some internal work will need to be done.

99 GMC Sierra Fluid Leak Immediately after Getting Oil Change

as an owner of three gmc sierras, i can attest that the brake lines that run along the frame rail under the master cylinder inherently rust away and break. I wouldnt neccesarily think it was tampered with. but do check the condition of all of the lines including the fuel lines for excessive rust.

white smoke? could be head gasket check the coolant level. also check the brake fluid level, could be burning that.

The dimmer switch should turn them off. Or pull the fuse.

It is likely one f the door ajar switches, usually driver door.

You have "Battery Saver" feature that shuts off interior lights after 30 minutes.
