Trekstor datastation maxim.u 5oo bg is my back up hard drive. After a power failure, the light goes from red/blue to a solid red. Is there any way to retrieve the data on the drive?

No, the hard drive icon is not recognizable to the computer. Are you sure there is no way to retreive the data?

  • pamelapbc May 20, 2011

Hi Bluechip999, I don't mind spending the $49 on a recovery program. The data is very important to me, and only part of it is backed up on a second hard drive.
I am working on a mac osx 3.06 ghz intel core duo through, not pc. Would I use stellar mac data recovery? Should I try freezing it first, or would it be safer to try the program. I most importantly want the data! Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, there may be ways you can try put hard drive in the ziplock bag and put it in the freezer and wait for an hour. Take it out and try it. If it works, try to move your data and quickly as you can. It worked for me before. If disk contains very important data, and you have tried the above step but didn't work, you may want to spend $49.00 for the recovery software. This software works for me more than 90% of the time (you don't have to spend more 2K to send your disk to professional data recovery stores). Here is the link. I have used their product before and it worked, you can call them for support too after purchase the product. http://www.stellarinfo.com/disk-recovery.htm No one can guarantee 100% that your hard drive can be restored including my recommendation . It really depends on bad the damage to your disk is. You just have to take a chance. Good luck. I hope you don't reject my solution. Thanks

You can try to put your hard drive in to zip lock, seal it so no water can get in. Freeze it for an hour and try it. This is a temporary fix, enough time for you to move data/file out of this bad drive. It may or may not work. If you concern about data and want to recover quickly, yes, you can buy software. You can also call for support, they can work with you through how to use the software and restore steps if this is your first time use.

number to call is 1-732-584-2700 if you are in the US. Good luck to you.

    Thank you

    Yes,

You will go for stellar phoenix Mac data recovery.

It can recover from any internal/external hard drives, USB flash drives, memory cards and Ipod too.

    Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. I would like to know if the hard drive is still detected by the computer? If it is still detected and you see it on the list of drives there is possible way to retrieve the data. However if it is not detected unfortunately there no way you can retrieve it.
Thanks

make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
hope this helps

Mechanical damage. Last possibility to retrieve the data on it: open the case, extract the hard disk, put it in a desktop and try to access it in there. If even this fails then it's dead, junk it.

If it still has a valid warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

Otherwise, open the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the adapter was the problem.

At the least, the device is "unreliable", and it would be wise to replace it, either by exercising the warranty (if the warranty still is valid), or by opening the enclosure, removing the disk-drive, buying a new (and compatible) disk-drive, inserting the new disk-drive, and closing-up the enclosure, to create a "new" external storage-device.

Datastation m.u stopped working : (

Hi,

Dropping a drive can be catastophic but usually isn't.

I suspect you may get lucky and find out it's just some of the circuitry in the trekstor shell that is damaged.

Take the Trekstor unit to your nearest PC shop and ask the technicians there to remove the Hard Drive and put it in a new enclosure to test it. If it works in the new enclosure, buy the enclosure and your done. If it doesn't work in the new enclosure then you may be suffering from worse issues that will require the help of a pro.

Either way let me know how you make out, if you need a pro for the next step, reply back with you location(Country, State, City) and I will refer you to the closest facility who can assist you.

Hope this Helps FixYa,

Chris

Hi there,

You will need some kind of disc utility.
Open the utility with the drive connected and it should show up in the options of drives.
You should then be able to format the drive.

It should then be usable.

If not take it back to the shop..
