There may be an issue with the drive it's playing from or an issue with your PC.

IU can't tell you more without looking at the actual file.

It's the nature of the beast. The TV has to process the digital video bitstream more than the receiver has to process the audio so the result can be a gradual lagging of the video behind the sound...

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. You didn't name yours so one does not know. Look in the manual.

In movie mode, my sound is "in front" of the movie

this may not mean much, so look really hard at the instruction manual but If the audiostream was recorded at 48,000Hz, change it to 44,100Hz... but if that way over your head try this easy way: in the menu look to find image quality and audio quality, when you are here either do as i have asked above or change your visual settings from high to normal, also if you have any of those menu items up on the lcd when you are taking the clip get rip of hem, as in my experience they slow down the processing power of the IC and these IC are made to process pixels not sound, so eventually after 40frames there is an overlap. good luck by the way!

Tip

Standalone DVD player with DivX why does the VBR encoded Audio lag the Video

DivX or XVid encoded MP4 Video codec or AVI will almost always have either the Dolby Digital AC3 Codec or the MP3 encoded audio codec see the following links; Fraunhofer MP3 Decoder or LAME MP3 Encoder

This fixed audio lag can sometimes be caused by VBR audio encoded files and starts part way through the playback as opposed to CBR audio some standalone DVD players will exhibit sound lag in this case. It is a good idea to re-encode the VBR to CBR audio this usually solves the problem.

I suggest that you convert/encode all your DivX AVI files into CBR audio to avoid any such errors; all commercial DVD Video Audio is encoded in CBR (constant bitrate) which also reduces the audio filesize unless its encoded in LCPM which will give a much larger audio component.

Check the audio bitrate type open the AVI in GSpot the example below shows an AC3 audio already in CBR so can be left alone and should work fine.

MANUAL CONVERSION PROCESS

This audio MP3 conversion process it a bit of a long way around I know, but it does work!
  • Open video in VirtualDubMod or VirtualDubMP3 (if there is an index error this can sometimes fix it for you.
c5c1d04.jpg
  • Ignore the error warning that the video contains VBR audio.
  • Extract audio as MP3 ("demux" in VirutaldubMod or save as WAV, then rename to MP3 in VirtualdubMP3).
  • Convert audio to WAV with CDex
  • Open original video in VirtualDub,choose "direct stream copy" for video and "WAV audio" with "Full audio processing" with CBR MP3 compression (and interleaving with appropriate delay if out of sync) for audio.
SEMI-AUTOMATED CONVERSION PROCESS

You could also use several other easier methods including AVIDemux which uses VirtualDubMod or scan in the DVD-Video using TMPEnc v4.0 Xpress and applying a time lead OR lag however this does not solve a progressive lag *** but can be used to re-author a fixed audio lag error in milliseconds you can use either Windows Media Player Classic or KVM Player in real-time to find this lag or lead error and then adjust accordingly

If you can't work AVIDemux then AVIrecomp will be your best solution this is a bit more user friendly

NOTE> always keep a Backup copy of the AVI before you make any drastic changes as you could make the file unplayable the above process will only work on FIXED AUDIO LAG AVI files.

Progressive Audio Lag (starts in synch and runs fast or slow throughout the AVI is almost impossible to remove with re-encoding the AVI using the above methods.

*** Feel free to comment if you know of a foolproof way other than performing a full re-encode from the MPG2 or DVD VOB file.

Movie download

Hi.

The S3 and other canons record AVIs as Motion JPEGS.

they should play in media player, but you may need to download a codec.

I use VEMoDe, a free movie converter. this may work for you. For playing on the PC I recommend the "Pocket PC' or Pocket PC VGA setting.

Thanks.

I have a philips DVD home theatre system HTS8100. Its fine except that NO dvds play in synch. I have checked them on my normal DVD player & they are fine. The synch button on the remote sometimes fixes...

Synch problems on Philips machines can be caused by the video output setting.

Usually there are 3 options for video output:
  • PAL
  • NTSC
  • AUTO
PAL & NTSC force playback in that setting, regardless of DVD format, and sometimes cause a time delay in the conversion.

Try changing this option to AUTO. IF you have a modern TV, it should allow both PAL & NTSC playback.

Video conversion using SMC

Hi Billy64,

Try MediaCoder it may give you better results. Normally a synch problem is due to the source being a VBR and the converted format being a CBR. MediaCoder normally warns you about encoding differences. Not sure it will solve your problem, bit it might make re-encoding process a little easier.

VBR -variable bit rate encoded
CBR -constant bit rate encoded

The Lip synch start off okay, but end up being several second out by the end of the video.

Regards,

Spare head 2.

Snowy screen playing dvd's

1.Check audio/video RCA jack cables
2.check S-video(if you use S-video cables)
3.check with another dvd player to get normal picture on your tv system. if picture is normal in this process. then problem with your old dvd player.
4.if same problem occurs in other dvd player. then problem with your television. external audio/video processing circuits
5.if the tv is ok. then the problem with your old Dvd player audio.video converting circuits
6. if can be rectified by authorised service engineers
7.Contact service engineer. as there is no recitification process from user part
