My freezer and refrig are not staying cold, the freezer is defrosting and ice is forming on the back of the freezer.

Hi,
Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator
do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other
things that can go wrong.

Freezer not defrosting

Most likely there is a leak in your freezer seal allowing moisture to build up and form the ice blockage.

Freezer works, frig does not. Also ice build up in freezer coil

I just worked on a FF801W which is supposed to be very similar. The defrost heater in mine was of the glass tube type and located under the evaporator. There was a bimetal thermostat clipped to the top of the evaporator and a thermal fuse (sealed in a clear plastic tube) nearby. The connections were behind a little plastic cover (2 screws) in the back wall just above the evaporator.

Mine was iced up like yours and I had to defrost it with a hair dryer. All the defrosting parts in the freezer compartment turned out to work so I now suspect the defrost timer (down by the compressor). I've marked it and I'm waiting to see if it's turning.

Whirlpool Ice Maker is not freezing the water to make ice. The water is being pumped to the freezing tray, but no ice forms.

I assume your in an area where the temperature has been in the 70's? or more lately? In fact if your not freezing water in to Ice you have a freezer problem that's going to get worse before it gets better. I suspect that you have either a Air movement, defrost problem, Or a dirty condenser.

The quick check for air movement: main thing is make sure the controls are set in mid range, any extreme end of the controls may keep too much air from the refrigerator going into the freezer making it too warm.

Defrost elimination (Check the floor or back wall on a top or bottom freezer fridge or the back wall of a Side X Side look with a mirror if possible) A problem here will require more information as to how to proceed. What make is it do you have a volt ohm meeter...

Of these this one is more likely especially if you've had some warmer weather lately. Look under the frig and behind it under the panel that covers the compressor area. See anything that looks like dirt and lint covering a large portion of the coils under the box??? vacuum or blow it out with compressed air and replace the panel give it 24 hours and see if you have ice.

Water collects on shelves and below the crisper bins at bottom

Your defrost drain hole is frozen closed.
Remove the back freezer panel and defrost the ice with a hair dryer.
Once the drain is clear poura 1/4 cup bleach in the drain hole.

Help frig not cooling model # FRT21LR7A

Hello,

You have to replace the electrical components on the side of the compressor. The heat from the fan not running by the compressor more than likely has damaged them. These are a safety feature to save the compressor from damage when it overheats.

You can find the factory repair manual here. This will have all the part numbers and what you need to replace to take care of your refrigerator. The Top Freezer Refrigerator one will be about your machine. It covers all the FRT Models.

Thanks
