This is fairly vague....
Is the drive formatted properly? Does it work when plugged into another computer? What OS are you running? Does your USB drive require drivers?

External hard drive is not detected


Check Following Instructions:
1. Check your USB cable properly connected to the computer.
2. Go to My computer - right click on property - Hardware - Devices Manager - in below - USB Mass storage device - right click on this - and Uninstall - then again right click - click on Scan - it should be reload your USB drivers
your External Hard Drive will be detected

the device is not recognized, this error comes out from USB connector, try another USB connector if the problems continue, or transfer it to another USB ports...

The day before you get ur usb from ur pc did you made safely remove?Try other drive if the problem are the same then the problem is in ur usb port.try to cheeck.

It's either the USB port, the drive electronics itself, or the USB cable.

First I'd try a different USB cable.
