Dell OptiPlex GX260 won't boot

We have had this computer for about 7 years now, no major problems at all. We had to restart the computer today, and it would not come back on. Just shows a orange light. I have the same computer in my office, switched out the power cords but that did not work. Any suggestions?

The light on the front flashes for a second, then nothing. I see one orange light burning in the tower. The last time it booted there was a message that said system battery voltage is low, strike F1

    Hi jaburr24,

When you try to turn it on, does the fan on the power supply spin up?

Get it to a position where you can see the back of the unit. Electronics happen to be natural dust magnets. Sometimes these guys collect so much it can stop the fan and cause over heating.

Let me know what you find out either way. I can walk you through trouble shooting it no problem.

    Mike

I think that your ram may have broken. ram is the stuff which is commonlyknown as memory and makes everything run. i had the same problem with mine and replaced the ram. it then worked fine.
should work

Well i have a dell optiplex gx260 desktop pc for witch i recently installed windows 7.now i have prolem in finding windows 7 audio drivers

Unfortunately, Dell doesn't support Windows 7 for the OptiPlex GX260. You could try an older driver and see if it will work, but you can't get any Windows 7 drivers for the GX260. (At least not yet.)

You can view a list of Dell computers that are Windows 7-compatible here:

My dell optiplex GX 260 suddenly restarted on its own a few times then it does not start anymore. The power indicator on motherboard doesnot light up. Power box burnt?

Possibly, there was a serious problems with capactiors that affected all major manufacturers a fre years back whereby the caps didnt last more than 2 to 3 years. SOme lasted longer before blowing. Dell could help you establish if yours was affected. It does sound like the power supply, see if the fan is spinning on it. If not they are easy to replace and can be purchased on ebay. Mail me if you need the part number and ill see if i can help you. m.g.woodruff@googlemail.com

Very slow boot

Bruce, the Dell OptiPlex GX260 normally will be equipped with a PC133 DDR1 128MB RAM module. It is recommended that you upgrade to higher memory bus DDR1 memory module, for example, 512MB/1GB DDR 1 running on 266 MHz to 533 MHz.

Hope this helps. Make sure u come back here if u still have further request.

You should be able to manually enter the drive perameters into bios. That should let you boot. Or boot it up with a boot disk.
