Most independent heater dealers have service departments, that can handle the service and repair of your heater. You may not have to take it to them.

From what you described, it sounds like either the Thermocouple has failed or that the pilot and the ODS Sensor (Which is part of the pilot, if it's a vent-free or flue-less heater) are clogged and need to be cleaned. Especially, if the pilot flame is curling upward and away from the thermocouple, when you try to light it.

If you want to attempt to clean it yourself, all you need is a can of compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) to accomplish it. It does require some dismantling of the heater cabinet, to access the pilot assembly. If you decide to tackle it yourself, I have included a link to a demonstration of "How to Clean a Burner & Pilot Assembly".

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi there

On these heaters there are a number of safety cut out switches and some are not obvious,
1. If fitted I guess they have changed the thermocouple ( this sits in the pilot flame and connects to the gas valve) if they have changed the gas valve.
2. There is normally a control link to the heater to prevent it starting if the pump is not running or the pressure is too low. This is usually a wire that runs through the pump motor overload(if fitted) and the inlet or outlet water pressure switches ( if both fitted) and then to the time clock (again if fitted) and to the thermosts on the heater.

I hope this helps, but please come back to me if you need more info

Gordon

How do I know if the pilot is lit on my heater? Can I light it myself?

Hello
You should be able to see it.There is a small flame in the bottom of the fire box at the end of the gas line tube inside the heater.

Also the gas valve will be turned to on.There are 3 positons on the gas valve, off pilot and on.
If the pilot lite is not lit the valve will be in the pilot or off positon.Plus if it were on and not lit you will smell gas.

Yes you can lite it.Follow instructions on side of heater on how to lite pilot.

The pilot is not proving to the control.Check that there is a GROUND/EARTH stake to the pool heater in the dirt. The pilot assembly needs a ground wire too the control.

make sure the pilot light stays on. look for a reset button which could be an overheat stat tripped. check to see if the thermostat is set up above the pool temperature.

Canot locate remote swich or instructions how to get water heater pliot lit on 1984 itasca motorhome

look for the gas valve and on the top of it there should be a valve that has either off, pilot, or on. Turn it to pilot and depress the knob. At the same time follow the small tube that comes of the valve and at the end of it is the pilot burner. Hold a match to the pilot burner and when it lites keep on holding the knob down for about 20 seconds. If you can release the valve and the pilot stays lite then you can turn the knob on the gas valve to on.

ES 160000 Endless Summer Patio heater won't stay lit

Bad thermocouple that senses the heat from the pilot light. This would be evident if you lite the pilot while holding the button down for about 30 seconds. If the pilot goes out as you release the button on the gas valve replace the thermocouple.

Laars Lite 2 pool heater will not fire. Pilot is on and I replaced the pressure switch. Had a similar problem at the start of the season but left on for a few hours it finally kicked in.Water pressure in...

I believe that the Laars Lite 2 heaters are a millivolt system . There is a thermopile in the pilot assembly that produces about 500 millivolts DC. This is the power that the gas valve uses to turn on. These pool heaters are notorious for getting resistive connections that restrict the flow of electricity through the circuit. A connection that looses 1/4 volt is no big deal with 110v but in a millivolt system that is half of your power. Start by checking the output of the thermopile then go through the entire circuit and clean every connection with sandpaper. usually this will fix it but if not then you will need to isolate each individual component to find out what is not passing power.
Good Luck,

My pool heater pilot will not stay lite. I can hold down the pilot button and soon as I release it the pilot will go out. Please help!

Ok a couple things to check here would be a thermocouple or a flame switch depending on the the type of ignition source. If it has a standing (continious) pilot you need to look for a small copper line returning from the pilot source to the gas valve most likley this will be it. The other will be a small copper line returning to a switch with 2 wires on the backside this will be a flame switch. the thermocouple could most likley be purchased from your local hardware store but a flame switch will have to come from the heater manufacturer.

Gas furnace wont stay lite

I'm a little confused by your terminology. You are saying you have a pilot lite and electric heat strips? Are you possibly meaning burners? Is the heater running for 2 hours straight without shutting off? how cold is it there? Lastly what temperature do you have the thermostat set at and how close does it get to the temp. before it shuts off?
