The hard disk inside it is failing - mechanical failure. This is unfixable, the hard disk must be replaced. Luckily a new one costs less than $25, can be bought at every IT shop and the procedure of replacing it is very simple and fast - less than half an hour: you open the case of the recorder, you unscrew the screws that keep it in place, you unplug the 2 cables that connect to the hdd and you take it out; the install is in reverse.
In that case there is only one thing left that would cause this - the hard disk's controller chip. Since the controller is part of the recorder's mainboard it means that you would have to replace it entirely. That is not cost effective since you could buy a new unit for less than what the repair would cost.
Sorry, time for a new recorder.

I have changed the HDD as you advised but the problem is still the same, doesn't play any DVD Disc and the whole system freezes up. Please advice further. Thanks
