Question about Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

The LCD display on my Canon PowerShot SX10IS hasn't worked for some time. Today I hit the display button and it suddenly came on. When I hit the Display button again it went off and won't come on again.

That sounds like a possibility, however today I turned the camera on with the LCD open and the viewfinder activated. I then hit Display and it switched immediately to LCD display. Then without hitting Display again I turned the camera on/off several times, both with the LCD closed and open and each time the camera functioned properly. I also the function button to display the stored images on the Disk and it functioned properly and worked properly when I shut the camera off in the disk display mode and turned it back on again. I then shook/jarred the camera slightly to see if the problem would reoccur but it did not. I shut the camera off for a few minutes and tried everything again, including rotating the LCD on both axes throughout it's range of motion and then turned it off/on again and it functions property. Does this still sound like a ribbon cable problem? I'm wondering if it could be the Display switch itself as I heard a slight "ping" noise when I pushed and the LCD started working again. I'm pretty skilled in electronics having made "board" level repairs on highly complex laboratory instruments so can probably remove the back and reseat the cables as you describe but don't want to do it if that isn't the problem.

I've avoided pushing the display button again as the camera is working and I hate to lose the LCD right away. Give me your thoughts on other possibilities please.

    John

It sounds like the ribbon connector to the dispIay might be loose, and needs to be reseated. You YouTube has some informative videos, but, basically, you have to take the back cover off to do this, which involves taking about 5 or 6 small screws out. The plastic tabs on the connector holder need to be pulled gently up to release the connector ribbon. Reseat the ribbon connector, and push the plastic holding tabs down to lock it securely. Sometimes the backlight has a narrow ribbon connector that should be reseated, also.
With a little luck, you will have a steady display.
If this doesn't help, the unit will have to be serviced to determine the problem. Get an estimate first since repair can be high.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

My Canon powershot SX10is LCD screen does not work when it is open (extended from the camera). Is there a setting or something I need to change

Press the Disp button near the bottom right of the LCD display housing.

You may need to press it twice to switch the display back to the LCD from the Viewfinder.

Close the LCD. Turn the camera off and then on. Look thorough the view finder and press the disp button to cycle through menus until it comes back to picture view. Open the LCD. If it doesn't show picture view, Press the disp button next to the menu button.

LCD screen not working

Hello

Ok, you should know that there is a cable which connects the lcd monoitor to the circuitboard of the camera itself. it could be that the cable is just slightly pulled out.

I know that there is a setting as well which enables you to use either the viewfinder or the lcd. Look for a button which looks like a screen with a star in it, this will either activate the lcd or the viewfinder.

At the link below you will be able to download the manual for this camera for further troubleshooting.

Hope this can be helpfull.

Kind regards
