I am working on cub cadet lawn tractor lt 1050. how do i remove and replace the rear axel?

Hello.

SOLUTION ON How to Remove Lawn Tractor Wheels.

Owning a lawn tractor to take care of the grass and yardwork is convenient until the tires need repairing. It is inevitable that sooneror later the tires will go flat and need replacing. You can replace the tiresonce you know how to remove the wheels on your lawn tractor. Unlike automotivewheels which have several lug nuts, the lawn tractor tire requires only theremoval of a retaining ring to release the wheel from the axle.Front Wheels
  • 1 Park the lawn tractor on a level surface. It is better to park the lawn tractor on the driveway or solid shop floor rather than the lawn. Place a floor jack under the front frame and jack the mower up until the front tires are six inches off of the ground.
  • 2 Place jack stands under the frame on each side of the jack and lower the jack until the frame is sitting on the jack stands. If the mower is on the lawn, place a piece of plywood under the jack stands to avoid sinking the jack stands into the lawn.
  • 3 Pop the axle cover off of the center of the wheel. You can pry the cover off with a small flathead screwdriver or grab the cover with a pair of pliers and twist the cover off of the axle.
  • 4 Pull the retaining ring from the axle with a pair of needle nose pliers. Grab the ring from the closed side and pull the ring straight from the side of the axle. If necessary, use a flathead screwdriver to aid in spreading the open part of the ring so the ring will slide off of the axle.
  • 5 Slide the two washers off of the axle and then pull the wheel off of the axle.
Toolsneeded to solve the problem below. Floor jack,Pair of jack stands ,Small flathead screwdriver ,Needle nosepliers ,Vice grips

My lawn tractor pulls to the right when driving can i fix this?

The Toe In/Toe Out will have to be adjusted (if the steering rods to each front wheel have sleeves), just like on a car.

Toe-in is the operating angle of front wheels on a riding tractor. If the front edge of the wheels point inward, towards each other, then the wheels have toe-in. If the front wheels point outward, the unit has toe-out (or negative toe-in). Adjustment of toe-in is necessary to maintain proper steering control.
Unlike automobiles, our tractors have pre-set camber and caster settings. Therefore no camber or caster adjustment is necessary.
Acceptable toe-in adjustment range for all of our lawn & garden tractors is anywhere between 1/16"-5/16". With 1/8" serving as the optimal range.
Detailed toe-in adjustment procedures for the various models of tractors are reviewed in the "Adjustments" section of the Operators Manual for the tractor.
If tires are not toed-in properly after adjustment, it is likely that other part(s) need service or adjustment. axles, wheel bushings, control arms and other steering components may be worn or damaged and will need inspection. Service these items as needed.
You haven't stated your make and model, so I can't send you the manual with the exact procedure for your machine.

I just changed the rear tires and now, coincidently, I have no drive from the engine to the tractor. It looks as if the clutch is not engaging. Also, the foot brake has just slopped around for some time...

I am assuming that you are working on a lawn tractor. If so then one of you rear wheels is now missing the wood-ruff key(square key-stock that goes between the wheel and the axle),and now the easiest wheel to turn is the one with no load so your axle on that side is just spinning inside the wheel. The brake rod needs to come off and the end turned in a couple of turns to fix your other problem.
