Question about Garden

Open Question

Snowblower transmission/friction wheel issue? I have a TroyBilt two stage snowblower with 8.5 HP Tecumseh engine. It is about 4-5 years old. It starts without a problem and all reverse and forward gears work. This year I noticed that it was not throwing the snow very far and I had many more jams/clogs on the second stage that is supposed to throw the snow. When trying to blow larger amounts of snow I noticed it does not rev/gear down like other snowblowers on my block I've observed. I've read that snowblowers don't have a transmission but a friction wheel. Would issues with a friction wheel cause this behavior? If so what should I look for when I attempt to open it?

SOURCE: I have a 1984 ariens snowblower with a Tecumseh and no spark

Electronic Ignition was introduced on many engines about that time frame. I would need to have model and type numbers from the engine to fully determine that question. However, have spark is still the issue. If the unit has a switch installed on the operator's console, it should be disconnected at the engine so that any safety switches are not masking or causing a problem that is not engine related.

Let's investigate a few basics first.

a) How have you determined that there is no spark?
b) Have you used a type of spark tester?
c) What is the condition of the plug. Brown or dark brown is OK. Black or silver is NOT Ok.
*If you do not have a spark tester,
a) remove the plug, and with it connected to the wire,
b) find a portion of metal around the cylinder that you can ground it on, and then pull the rope.
c) If the plug is black, you may see spark, but you should replace the plug.
*** PLEASE NOTE ; if there is excess fuel in the cylinder or on spark plug, it can catch fire, so be carefull to cover the hole with a heavy rag so that any fuel cannot be exposed to spark plug durning test !!!!

Get back with me on how this issue works out.
thanks, rwvanlue

Troybilt snow thrower wheels lock up cannot push or pull. Model 5524. Whats up?

Sounds like friction disk is not retracting for pressure plate. Flip snowblower up on front end and take out 4 or 6 bolt out of cover plate. wheels will be in the air so try to turn wheels and look. Your fiction disk is the rubber wheel that moves with you gear shift lever. It should not be touching round metal plate unless your handle on bars is push down to in gage drive. Most snowblowers have a spring to pull metal plate back your probably broke or rusted off.
