Question about Linksys Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Roku, which allows me to transfer Netflix films to my TV. Since we no longer have a WiFi it must be attached by wire. I have a Linksys Cisco router. Can yo give me directions on installing both the router, if needed, and the Roku? Many thanks, Paul

Okay, the router "if needed" first. Do you need a router? A router is used mainly to connect multiple devices to one internet connection. The Roku is one, if you have computer(s) also, then yes you need a router. Is the Linksys router wireless?
From the wall the coaxial cable TV/internet cable goes into the cable modem and another coaxial to the Cable box. Wire to the TV as desired. From the cable modem to the router use a RJ 45 cable into the WAN/Internet port. Now use another RJ 45 cable to the Roku and RJ 45's to the other ports marked 1 to 4 as needed for computers. If the Linksys router is wireless you can set up everything wirelessly.
Instructions for setting up the Roku is at the link below.

Good luck,

\I wish to start up Netflix on my TV

Do you own a smart tv or a streaming device like a Ruko, a blu-ray player with streaming capabilities, or a xbox or other gaming console with streaming feature?... Also you need high speed internet with a downstream speed of 15Mbps or greater for streaming video in HD, an updated modem and a and very fast router running at least 300Mbps or greater. IMO. This works for me.

Do I need a HD TV to watch Netflix

No, the quality of the display is not an issue, but you do need a way to connect to netflix via the internet and then display it. This can be done via a "smart" tv with integral wifi, or through an attachable device such as roku, etc.

Roku 2XD does not have an ethernet port so you have to improve your Wifi capability. Using a Wifi booster will help but not reliably connected always.

If you have a TV with WIFI and the internet in your home, you just go to www.netflix.com and setup a membership.
If you do not have WIFI built into your TV then you can buy a Blu-Ray Player with WIFI or direct connect.
Or, for a little less they sell just WIFI boxes that will connect most TV's to the Internet. The least expensive can be found at or anywhere else. http://www.roku.com/roku-products
Good Luck
