Near-black screen on my Panasonic DMC-FX8

Good afternoon,

I have a Panasonic DMC-FX8 digital camera and am having issues with a near-black screen. I saw your earlier response about taking it to a Sony store to have it fixed. Will they fix a Panasonic? Also, I am leaving in 2 days for a trip to SE Asia and need to have it ready--is there any place you can recommend in the New York City area to get this fixed quickly?

Thanks so much!

Emily (emily.a.schwartz@gmail.com) The LCD display on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 went black out of the blue a couple of months ago The camera othewise works and takes pictures but I can't see what I am taking. Called panasonic customer service and they were no help. They said I could send it in for service but since I was beyond 1 year warranty it would be over $100 just to look at it and diagnose the problem. Fixing it, if possible, would cost more. I'm not up for that and would rather buy something new than pay that. I would like to fix this one if possible, since I has taken great pictures. Camera is only two years old (8/06).

Ugh, same problem on my Panasonic DMC-FX8 the screen is barely visable. It just happened out of the blue. It still takes pictues though. I love this camera, and don't want to spend tons for repairs. Does anyone have anything? Tried tapping on a hard service, doesn't work. HELP!

We have a Panasonic DMC-FX9 and same thing, the display is nearly black.

The camera is great and I'd really like to get it fixed or fix it myself. The warranty is up so any repairs will truly be out-of-pocket. I am at the point where I'm going to carefully take the camera apart and see what I can accomplish on my own. Wish me luck...

Same problem - screen went very dim (barely visible) for no reason.

I found another message board where the person firmly hit the bottom of the camera on a hard surface and it started working. I gave it a shot and it worked!!! Obviously not a long term solution but apparently by making the camera so small they may have cut a few corners with the backlight wiring.

As above, black screen on my DMC FX8 without any warning of an impending problem. On the 3rd sharp tap to the base on a hard surface and the problem was solved! Is this a case of "brawn beats brains"?Nothing to be lost given the extortionate costs of having a"professional/expert" potentially give it the same treatment in the camera workshop!

Camera will not turn on

Try taking out the battery, then putting it back in. Also consider using a replacement battery to see if that's the issue. Your problem might be addressed in the user manual for the device:

Panasonic dmc-fx8 black screen

Hi

Sounds like either your aperture is stuck shut so no light is getting into the lens, or the CCD is defective. The CCD is what changes the light into a digital signal for the camera to record.

If you find a defective camera with a good lens you can make one good camera from the two.

If you can't do it yourself, we are an affordable digital camera repair business (Google Darntoothysam) and can get pricing for you for a replacement lens. Most lenses are are able to install and ship back to the customer for only $70. If we can help please let us know.

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

Camera doesn't respond

Hey bro I have exactly the same problem, when i turn on the damn thing it just zooms right out and just keeps scrolling through the options. I think that it has to be some sort of software problem, there must be a way to reset it!
