Question about Durabrand DPX3290L Player
If you get sound then the lens from the optical; reading head works perfectly fine: the disk is read correctly, the data from it extracted and decoded correctly but only the sound is present.
The fault is in the video circuits: either the screen (in the data cable that connects it to the processor or the backlighting) or in the processor itself.
To find out which you must do 2 tests:
1 - play a dvd, get a powerful flashlight and point it straight at the screen: if you can see the image then the backlighting has failed and will have to be replaced - $100 for parts and labor at a repair shop. If not then the screen is not active so a second test is needed.
2 - dismantle the case of the player (both the lid with the screen and the bottom with the unit) and remove and verify the data cable that connects the optical unit to the screen; if it's broken it will have to be replaced ($15 for a new cable, from a repair shop); if it's not broken and even after reconnecting it properly the image is missing then the video section of the procesor has failed. In that case the player is dead, since it will be cheaper to buy a new one than to replace the board of this one.
