I just went through this. My problem was that I had something
obstructing my print cartridge. I took the back off with 3 screws, then
the side panel (on the cartridge side). this was real easy, take the
trim off and there is one screw, then find the little arrows that show
where the tabs are that slide into the side of the printer itself. I
used a flat head screw driver to unsnap them. Once open, I tipped my
printer side ways and saw the object in there. Put it back together and
now it works.
But the problem you are having could just be as simple as a loose
cartridge. Take the cartridges out and put them back in making sure they

Hi You can Try 2 things. ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there Next try. It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire. Solution 1: Clean the timing strip.
Solution 2: The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. Good Luck.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

5100 says the carriage with the inks can't move right to left properly. Possibly grease that needs to be wiped from the encoder strip, behind the carriage, and one customer left the white plastic tray over the hole and stopped the carriage. Look for anything inside that would stop the carriage from moving freely. Also under warranty..so free service
Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work
The power light is tied to the Mother Board and therefore it could be an issue with just about anything on the PC. Here is the trouble shooting documentation and the link should bring you directly to what the various conditions of the power LED mean.
There is also a detailed listing for the HD light as well as some diagnostic lights (if your paticular variation is equiped)
