Hello,
If you can still get into windows as is, goto the control panel. Select Administrative Tools and go into the Computer Management.
Select Disk Management. In the volume list look for one that says system restore, hidden, recovery partition, etc... Highlight it and right click and select Mark Partition as Active.
Now reboot your laptop and try pressing F11. It should go into the restore process.
NOTE: This will not work if the computer was previously formatted and an operating system other then the default was installed.
Regards, Chris

Factory reset hp Compaq 6910p

This is how you put it back to Factory Settings...
1) Press and Hold the F11 key during boot.
If you are unable to get into Windows to start the recovery then you start the process when you first switch on the PC.
As soon as you turn on your PC, tap the F11 key on the keyboard until you get the "Windows is loading files..." message. When Recovery Manager has loaded click advanced options. Choose system recovery.
If you wish to try and backup any data then choose backup your files first and follow the on screen instructions. To run the recovery without backing up your data choose to recover without back up.
The recovery will launch and restore your system back to it's factory default state.
This is how you put it back to Factory Settings from desktop...
1) You can start the recovery from within Windows as follows:
Click Start
Click All Programs
Click Recovery Manager
Click Recovery Manager again
Click next when the Recovery Manager program loads. You will be prompted with several questions before the recovery starts.
"Would you like to perform a program recovery?" - choose no
"Would you like to perform a driver recovery?" - choose no
"Would you like to launch Microsoft System Restore?" - choose no
"Would you like to recover your computer to its original factory condition?" - choose yes
The computer will now restart and launch the recovery program.
NOTE: Some computers are F10.
OR
1) Turn on the computer
2) Start tapping/pressing F12 for Boot Menu
3) Insert HP Recovery Disc
4) Select DVD/CD-ROM and press enter
5) Press any key to start the installation

Im trying resore my acer back to factory settings

Did you press 5 times

If you do NOT have a copy of this disc, skip to step 3 for further instructions. Once you restart your computer, a screen will appear with the words. Press Any Key to Boot From CD. Once you press a key, a screen will come up containing instructions to format your hard drive and restore the original factory settings. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the installation. Once the restore is complete, remove your Recovery CD from the disk drive so that your computer does not try to boot from the CD again. Restart your computer to complete the restore. 3. If you do not have a System Restore disk, then your computer should have a recovery partition on your hard drive, separate from the main partition of the disk. Unplug all external devices and restart your computer. When the loading screen comes on with the Windows logo, press Alt+F10 together five times. This will bring up the system restore menu. Follow the on-screen prompts to restore your computer back to the factory settings Hope this helps.

Press the F11 key at startup. This should bring up the Gateway System Recovery option. That will allow you to restore your computer to it's originally installed state.

Windows xp hard reset

This is what you manual said to do, unfortunately most times the Recovery does not work. I prefer a clean install over recover because I don't get all the unwanted programs.
Instructions from Manual below:
Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold
the On button until the computer turns off.
2 Disconnect all peripheral devices from the
computer, except the monitor, keyboard, and
mouse.
3 Press the On button to turn on the computer.
4 Immediately, when you see the initial company
logo screen appear, press the F11 key on your
keyboard repeatedly until the Recovery Manager
window appears.
5 Click Advanced options.
6 In the Advanced options window, click System
recovery, and then Next.
7 Click No to back up files (if you have already
done so), and then click Next.
System recovery begins. After system recovery is
complete, the computer restarts.

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a restore point (date and time) before you started having problems?
A clean fresh install of windows might be your only and best option.

How can i reset my emachines e525 laptop to factory settings as i have tried and i cannot find out how, i also forgot to create a backup disk so i can not use one of them.

Have you try to press the F11 button ?
Turn off the computer, press the "Power" button. Wait for the eMachine's computer to reach the screen that reads "Press F11 to start recovery." Once this screen appears, press the F11 key on the keyboard multiple times to make sure that it registers. If the recovery screen does not come up, you will need to turn the computer off and back on again and attempt to press the F11 button again when the prompt appears.
After doing that is only necessary to follow the steps.

I need a resore disk for latitude d400. Windows XP will not load. continues to go through start up procedure.

You can try to press Ctrl key + F11 on boot-up if you have a recovery partition on the computer it will take you to the system recovery options and from their you can select dell factory image restore that will restore your computer to factory settings but you will loose all your data. If their is no recovery partition then you can call dell to Oder a recovery cd that will cost you $10 to $12.

Restore to factory settings? or a System Restore?

For factory restore (All Data wil be Lost), tab the f11 key while booting the computer and enter PC recovery. Go to Advance options and Select the option of "restoring the system back to factory settings". in case u do not go to PC recovery after multilple attempts, there is no partition. Use Recovery cds.

System Resore : All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System restore. Select a date and Follow instructions(No Data Loss)
