Toshiba Satellite A65-S1762 makes one long beep then two short when turned on

I have a Toshiba Satellite A65-S1762 notebook. I was trying to update it and it froze. Now when I turn it on it give me one long beep and the two short beeps and then turns off. I've tried the recovery CD, butno luck. Could this be a proble w/the bios? If so how do I fix it?

I had the same problem when doing a BIOS update it accidentally lost power and shut down never to turn on again. I saved up my cash and found a place to repair the system board for about $300. This is a very good laptop withe the following exception that it does run hot so get a laptop cooler and blow it out occasionally. The 3.2 Ghz processor rocks but you cannot let it maintain a high temp for long or expect to have problems. Has Windows XP and I prefer it over a newer HP Vista based laptop I bought to replace the Toshiba when it was down. Picks up weak wireless signals great! DVD writer and CD writer. Battery life eventually sucks though. It is a fast laptop and does it all but with newer laptop technology changing so fast it is almost obsolete in comparison to the new netbook stuff coming out today. I still enjoy playing with it and using it for work.

Sounds like video problem.

My wife has one of these and it died.

One file came up corrupt and then after I restored it the system would just drop power without warning.

Then would hang in safemode at an ATI sys file for the video.

It's on the mainboard. These also have built in RAM problems too.

You can try to remove any additional RAM you may have added in the bottom slot and try to boot.

My best advice is get a $20 best buy/staples 2.5" USB HDD enclosure and throw the HDD in there and toss the leftovers on Ebay with an explanation.

You'll get $100-150 for it to help buy yourself a new one.

Sell the LCD as one deal, the keyboard another, AC adapter another and so on. You'll get more that way.

I'd go Fujitsu. Toshiba used to be good but they went to **** to compete with HP/Compaq and sell at Walmart.

Gateway is also decent. The key is newer laptops run too hot and end up toast in a year or two.

Buy something a little less frantic in the GhZ dept. and it will last longer.

Pushing a laptop for gaming or 3D graphics is hardly it's best use. Manufacturers are too busy adding flashy selling points instead of practical features like lighter weight and longer battery life.

I want to replace the hard drive in my toshiba satellite A65-S1762

Easy. Your HDD is located in front of the battery pack - to the side. The door is held in by one screw, and the HDD is held to a bracket by 2 screws. Any 2.5", 9.5mm height ATA IDE drives will do. Make sure you don't lose the door, bracket, and screws.

How to install additional toshiba a65 s1762 memory

Yes, you need to flip your laptop over and look for a removable compartment that requires you to unscrew a screw. Once you get the cover removed, you will see slots with either one or two memory modules installed. If one is installed, then you can add the additional memory module in the empty slot. If you have 2 already installed, then you will need to remove one and install your new module, which would only give you a total of 768 megs. Just slip the new memory in and press it down towards the motherboard and start your laptop..

My toshiba a65-s1067 turns on then turn off

This is a Hardware failure beep. Check to make sure your ram is seated in it's ports on the bottom of your computer. If it's not that than something is wrong with *********** board.

Toshiba Satelite A65-S1762 hard drive problem

That means that the disk has a bad sector.

Try chosing the option to format the hard drive during the system installation.

If that does not work, then replace the hard drive.

Bios password

If you can not get in the touch with the person who owned it previously and set the password, problably the only solution is to do a BIOS update.
Go to:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1004857&moid=713851&rpn=PSA60U&BV_SessionID=@@@@0874164868.1224211563@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciadefhdhmidjcgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false

and download ACPI BIOS v1.90.

Follow their instructions minutely.
When it asks to replace the current file, say yes.

WARNING: messing with the BIOS requires EXTREME caution.
1 - Make sure power will NOT fail. AC powered all the time
2 - Do NOT interrupt the procedure, else, bye bye laptop

If this procedure does not work, you will have to go to a Toshiba costumer service.
