Have a old idc 400-1 mini rototiller has no spark disconnected kill switch still no spark? are these solid state? any breakdowns available?

actually, while I was at a small engine repair shop, the nice gal there found a diagram on their computer and printed me out a page. So, i did get a paper diagram, but so far unable to find a diagram on websites that I can save on computer.

Will not start no spark


No spark, lets start with the easiest, sure the plug is good? Not wet? With a clean dry plug still no spark, disconnect the kill switch, eigther at the ignition unit or at the switch itself (on the handle). If still no spark the ignition unit is bad. These are solid state they work or they don't. Hope this helps.

Eigther the kill switch failed or ignition module. Disconnect wire to kill switch if you get spark then switch is bad. Still no spark with kill wire disconnected ignition module quit.

How do I get a new solid state ignition. My crruent leaf blower is not getting any spark


Hi, most lawn mower repair shops either will have those in stock or can order them for you. Its a common item, or you can go to www.mtd.com and order it online. Before repalcing the coil, remove the kill switch wire from the coil, then check for spark again. you could have a defective kill switch.

I just got new points for my 1977 yamaha xs400. My old ones were pitted and burnt. Now I can not get it to start. My old ones just did not give the spark i needed. I also got a new condensor. The new...


The gap should be .015 with the points arm on the high point of the cam. There is a chance the new condensor could be bad from the factory. Not very likely, but remounting the old condensor would eliminate that as the problem. Is there any chance the wires are disconnected or broken anywhere? Use a multi meter to check for power at the points. Have you checked the fuse box? Is the Kill switch on? Check the side stand kill switch also if your bike has one. Good battery? Install new spark plugs. Carbon buildup on the plugs can rob electricity needed for a spark. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

I have a 6hp tecumseh motor on a go kart that is not getting spark.it has been sitting for a whilei have cleaned the magnet behind cover but im not sure if it is the problem or something with the on/off...


First, try a new plug, then if still a problem ....

Assuming it's not pre-1985, then the ignition is solid state. To test - disconnect the 'kill' wire (usually black, but could be green or even red) coming from behind the cowling. Check for a spark. If OK, your problem is in the wiring. If still no spark, replace the coil.

If your engine IS ancient enough to have points, post back here and I'll advise.

Husqvarna chainsaw no spark


Ignition systems on newer saws are a solid state all-in-one package. Disconnect the kill switch wire from the ignition pack to make sure that the switch isn't broken. Use a fresh spark plug to check spark with. An old one that is black inside is likely shorted. If still no spark, replace the ignition module. Use a piece of card stock to set the flywheel magnets to module gap, then tighten screws

Honda with no spark


Check the fuses. Next, check for spark but with a new spark plugs. How good is the battery? Try a jump from your car battery. Is the kill switch on? Does the side stand have a kill switch? Is it working properly? Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter. Be sure you have power coming out of the switch.

Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop.

Hey i had a similar problem a liitle while ago on my yamaha,i disconnected the kill switch wire then i had spark(faulty kill switch)

Powermate 6250 no spark


Hi Mark,

The engines used on the Powermates have a low oil shutdown system that can be troublesome. Try this:

1 - Make sure there is enough oil in the crankcase. The oli level needs to be all the way up to the bottom of the threads in the oil fill hole.

2 - Still no spark? Replace the spark plug with a new one (properly gapped), then spray something like brake cleaner into the carb. Pull the rope and see if you hear any detonations from the engine. If the engine tries to start but won't you need to look at the fuel system, then the ignition.

3 - If you proved there isn't any spark happening, look under the plastic cover where the kill switch is located. You'll find a small metal box with wires coming out of it. Find the wire that goes from the box to the kill switch and disconnect it at the switch. Mark things as needed so that you'll remember where to put them back. Give the rope a gentle pull and see if we have a working ignition, if it does have spark there is something wrong in the low oil shutdown mechanism.

4 - If you've convinced yourself that the low oil shutdown is misbehaving try changing this oil and flushing out the crankcase. Look for any evidence of debris that would have made the oil level float bind. As a final test reconnect the wire we took off the switch and disconnect the one that goes from the module to the oil sensor on the side of the engine, if you don't get a spark with the sonsor disconnected you probably have a bad module.

5 - If we didn't get ignition with the low oil shutdown disconnected from the kill switch, reconnect the wire we took off and then disconnect the (usually black) wire that leads down inside the engine. This is the kill wire for the ignition module. If you get the engine to start with this wore disconnected you may have a shorted kill switch, test it with an ohm meter.

6 - if there still isn't a spark with the kill wire disconnected you may have a bad ignition module. You have to take off the carb, then the blower housing to get to it. Check that the kill wire isn't shorted to the block anywhere, and that the module has the proper gap and orientation before replacing it, The modules say "cyl side" on the side that should face into the engine. A regular business card or a playing card ought to just fit between the magnet on the flywheel and the module, too loose would cause a loss of ignition. You get extra points if you use a feeler guage to set the gap to 0.010 inches.

7 - Ignition modules are available from a bunch of different places, your local Briggs supplier will want to know the model, type, and code numbers located on the side of the valve cover in order to be sure which parts you need,
