Question about Hoover Tempo Widepath Upright Vacuum - Blue

1 Answer

The vacuum takes super powerful muscle to push on carpeting. Doesn't matter what floor level the switch is on. Brush is turning when looking at it lying down. But it just feels like you are pushing thru mud. Suction good. Husband doesn't know if there's some height adjustments that can be made, brush needs replacement or what?

We have already done what you suggested.

Wheels turn fine. Brush moves when we turn it by hand, with some resistance.

Any other ideas? Anything to do with the carpet level adjustment?

  • eball82 May 20, 2011

My husband said that when he removed the plastic cover from over the bottom, the vacuum worked fine. Easy to push.

Belt looks good. Wheels fine. He cleaned out any dust. The vacuum is only 2 or 3 years old.

Two things first, turn the vacuum over and ensure the wheels turn easily. Then check that the brush turns fairly easily. You will be turning the drive motor so there will be some resistance. If there is no resistance then the drive belt is probably broken.

Let me know how you make out.

Not that I can think of. When you lay the vacuum on it's side or back, does adjusting the carpet height adjust the height of the brush and platform (the part that holds the brushes and wheels)? If it does not, then there is something broken on the part that changes height. If the height adjustment works, then what happens on bare floor? If it is OK on bare floor and the height adjustment works, are the brushes turning when on the carpet? You should be able to tell by tilting backwards a little bit and hear the brushes turning and see if they stop when setting back on the carpet.

Did he check the movement of the height adjustment to see that it actually is moving the brush height? What happens is there are 2 wheels just behind the brushes. These wheels adjust the height of the front of the vacuum controlling how close the brushes are to the carpet. The handle has to be released to actually make this check but does not need to be running.

I can't push my Dyson Dc33 on my new carpet..it works backwards ok but not pushing forward?

Hi Fran, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 is engineered to work effectively on both hard and carpeted flooring. The cleaner head is engineered to adjust automatically for different floor types and carpet piles. You can also turn off the brush bar for hard floors and delicate rugs, using the brush control on the cleaner head.
push-dyson-dc33-new-carpet-works-1knn0ucrcyiuamdom311flx5-1-0.jpg
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty pushing your machine forward on this particular type of new carpeting. If your DC33 worked effectively before the new carpeting was fitted, it doesn't sound like there's an issue with the vacuum itself. However, we'd appreciate the opportunity to take some further details about the issue, and may be able to suggest a resolution. You may also want to consider contacting the carpeting manufacturer directly, as they should be able to recommend the best way of caring for this specific carpeting.

When you have your DC33 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Our DC41 is impossible to push on carpet. Is there an adjustment to do? Almost like there is too much suction.

See if the following information can help.

CARPETS OR HARD FLOORS

• The brush bar will always default to 'ON' (spinning) each time you switch the

appliance 'ON' and recline it for cleaning.

• The brush bar will not rotate when the appliance is upright.

• To switch the brush bar 'OFF' (e.g. for delicate rugs and hard floors):

- switch the appliance 'ON'

- recline the appliance

- press the brush bar 'ON/OFF' button - the brush bar will stop spinning.

• The brush bar will automatically stop if it becomes obstructed. See 'Brush bar -

clearing obstructions'.

• Before vacuuming your flooring, rugs and carpets, check the manufacturer's

recommended cleaning instructions.

• Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this

happens, we recommend vacuuming in 'hard floor' mode and consulting with

the flooring manufacturer.

• The brush bar on the appliance may damage some carpet types. If you are
unsure, turn 'OFF' the brush bar.

How do I adjust the power cam locationpower cam on a dc27

Hi Charles, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC27 is engineered to adjust automatically for different floor types - there is no way of manually adjusting the height of the wheels or brush bar. The vacuum may need higher push force on certain types of deep pile carpeting. We would recommend checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their advice on caring for this particular carpeting - manfacturers may recommend vacuuming some carpets with the brush bar turned off, and it may be worth giving this a try.

To turn off the brush bar, just use the brush control switch next to the red on/off switch:

We love our Dyson DC25 Animal but we just got new carpet and it's like pushing furniture around the room. I know it doesn't have a height adjustment but is there any other option?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your DC25 Animal on this particular type of carpeting. This sounds unusual especially as it worked effectively on your older carpeting. As DC25 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types and pile heights, there is unlikely to be an issue with the vacuum itself.

It may be worth checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their guidance on caring for this specific type of flooring. Manufacturers will sometimes recommend vacuuming certain types of long-pile or delicate carpeting with the motorised brush bar turned off.

If you'd like any further guidance from our experts, you can reach us by calling the Dyson Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The bare floor/carpet switch moves on it's own from bare floor to carpet all the time.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. When you have your brush control set to 'Carpets', the brushbar should run when the cleaner is reclined into the vacuuming position, and shut off when you stand the cleaner upright. When you have the brush control set to 'Hard floors', it should remain in the off position until you change it manually back to 'Carpets'.

If it won't stay in the 'Hard floors' position during use, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can determine if there's a fault, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

I can't switch from the brushless option to the rotating brush option.

Hi there,

You should be able to turn the brushbar on using the brush control on the cleaner's head, turning it from the 'Hard floors' to the 'Carpets' setting. For further guidance, you might find it helps to refer to the user guide supplied with the cleaner. In case you don't have this to hand, you can download a copy here:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc07_opmanual_usa.pdf

However, if the brushbar doesn't seem to be rotating when the brush control is set to 'Carpets', it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25. If the cleaner feels heavy to push, it may simply be due to the machine's powerful suction - the soleplate is engineered to form a close seal with the floor surface for high pick-up. The tracklines on the carpet are nothing to worry about - they're a normal feature of operation of the revolving brushbar.

It's also normal for the exhaust air from the motor to become warm after a period of use. I note you've stated that the filters are clean, but you might want to take a look at the video embedded below to check you've washed them correctly. Under normal use, they should be rinsed under cold water at least once every 3 months, and allowed to air-dry. No detergents should be used.

If you have any further concerns about your DC25, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can provide the assistance you need. You can call us free on 08002980298 - our Helpline is open from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

Move the carpet height control switch to a higher position if the vacuum is difficult to push. If the setting is too low for the carpet being cleaned, the brushes press against the floor preventing the vacuum from moving easily.Set to a medium-high height setting then check.Slide the "Self-Propel" button to the "ON" position if the cleaner does not self-propel. -----------
The self-propel feature operates only when the cleaner switch and the self propel button are both ON. ---------- Try this settings and check. This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
