Question about GoVideo VR3845 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

I was copying a VHS movie to a DVD-R disc that the machine had formatted in "Video Mode" when first inserted. The movie was too old and blurry so I stopped the copy process in a short time (possibly 5 minutes of recording time). The pop up message on the TV screen read "recording file information, please wait". I waited for at least five minutes and the message would not finish and go away as it always has in the past. It also would not allow me to "open" & "reject" the DVD, each time giving me the circle and slash bar for "not At this time". I finally had to unplug the Go Video Combo unit from the wall socket. When I plugged the unit back into the power socket nad powered up the unit it did allow me to open the DVD door and remove the disc. I then tryed later to play a regular purchased DVD and this is where the problem appeared. When I inserted any DVD into the unit it would immediately start "reading" the disc but then woul open the tray and a message would appear on the TV screen "unknown disc, please try again". It gives this message regardless of what type of DVD you insert and never allows the unit to start to "play" the DVD. It just keeps kicking out the DVD. I tried the unit "reset" troubleshooting procedure (several times) thinking that this would "clear" the DVD "read head" but this did nothing. Do you have any other suggestions?

That is a lens problem .you can clean the lens first with a cotton buds moistened with an alcohol and gently wipe it on the lens .

You will need to open the cover of your device. You will find the mechanical loading disc tray. The one where disc is loaded that moves in and out when ejecting or inserting the disk. In the middle of the mechanical loading you will find a spindle motor and beside this is a small glass illuminating red when the unit is on. This is the lens. Clean it with a cotton bud moistened with alcohol.

You may also need to check the ribbon wire that connects the lens and the CPU. Replace it with a new one if possible. Check /secure all the connectors from the board and to the mechanical system.

Let me know how it goes..

Can i record old vhs movies to dvd or are they copyrights to them? Like Disney movies from vhs to dvd? Thank you

Old VHS tapes may have a copy protection in the video that will cause the video to go dark then to go bright making the copy no good. There are devices available that will remove this copy protection. The copy protection is called macro vision I believe.

I copied old vhs home movies to dvd and they wont play on any dvd player

Whether the movies would play or not depends on the format in which it was copied to the DVD. It is good for you to know that DVDs have their specific format that they work with.
Burning a media file onto a DVD disc without regarding the format would render it unable to play on any DVD player.
This may be the cause of your problem. You have to take it someone who is a professional in this field and ask him to help you re-convert or dub them into the DVD disc.
Hope this was helpful?

JVC SR-DVM600 Dubbing from HDD to DVD Problem

Have you tried using a different brand disc. When I first purchased my DVM-600 it would not record on Memorex discs. I purchased TDK -R discs and all is fine. In the old-school analog world, all specific format tapes were computable to all machines. In other words, a VHS tape recorded in your VHS recorder will play back in my machine and every other VHS machine. Because the DVD format has so many formats and standards, compatability issues are quite common.

Samsung dvd vr357 Can not watch copied dvd on other dvd players

I know with the Go-Video, the DVD disc has to be 'finalized' before it's compatible with other DVD players/computers.

Check your 'set-up' menus while that disc is inserted into your Samsung DVD machine and see about pushing the 'up' arrow, if you have one, to see the contents of the DVD disc...then see if you can toggle to the right to see options for that disc, for instance, the title of it. You might see the 'finalize' option there.
