Question about IO Magic Corporation GigaBank (I250HD35) 250 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
I cannot get my computer to recognize my usb storage device ---6gb. anu suggestions?
I know this is a bit of an older problem.... but here is the fix.
The problem is that as you are using the device one of the usb pins has been pushed back.
The fix is to take apart the cover, carefully removing the internals not to break the wire going to the usb connector. Once the harddrive is removed you'll be able to pop the usb part out. Grabbing the metal part of the usb connector and base twist to open. Remove the bad glueing. Push pin back in and reglue. Reassemble. Allow glue to dry. Should work fine now.

I had a 320GIG external HD from IOMagic I bought, installed and used just fine...for the first 2 wks. Then the USB was no longer recognized! After several live chats with IOMagic they gave me the following solutions: 1) use a commercial HD crash company to recover my data (about $2K!!!), 2) connect the external drive as an internal one. I'm currently working on #2.
I was briefly able to get my computer to recognize the external HD once when I was wiggling the USB cord on the HD itself, but alas is was only for a second or so and haven't been able to do it again.
I'll NEVER buy an I/O Magic item again because of their bad product and shady customer service; what good is a warranty if I have to pay for the recovery of data because of their bad product AND by the time I do recover the warranty period is over????

Was your computer ever able to recognize your GigaBank, or is it new?
The most common problem people have with a new drive not showing up in My Computer are:
1) The drive is not formatted
2) The drive letter is mapped incorrectly
You can check both of these things in Disk Management by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Manage, then clicking on Disk Management on the left hand side.
If your drive doesn't show up in Disk Management, and you are also unable to see the drive on multiple computers, then you may be experiencing a hardware malfunction.
