Question about Cell Phones

1 Answer

I need an advice about one of the transactions made on ebay. It is really important someone gests back to me asap. I sold an item an I received payment straight away but then the next day that money was put on hold due to unauthorised payment. I contacted the buyer, asking what's going on. The buyer claims that someone used their account and so paypal put ALL transactions on hold, even those which were authorised. The buyer is saying that they already contacted paypal and were told to proceed with the transaction. So the buyer is asking me to send the item and provide the tracking number and they will then release the money. I don't know weather I should do it or not? I'm really worried because I'm new at this. I've only sold one item so far and I don't want to be scammed. Please help me. My question is, if I send it and provide paypal with the tracking number, would I be protected?

I just replied to that person basically saying that I can't send the item without the payment and asked them (very nicely) to cancel the transaction. I also told them that if they get things sorted out with paypal they can try and buy from me again or just buy from someone else.

I always trust people too much but after reading so many horror stories about people who got scammed or didn't get any help from paypal at all it made me realise that there are way too many untrastworthy people out there. I'm new to selling on ebay and I know that for that reason people are more likely to try and scam me. But like you said, i have to trust my instincts and in this case I know I shouldn't take that risk. i mean what do i have to loose anyway?
A potential customer? Maybe. I'll probably find someone else.
And if i do take that risk and get scammed, I'll loose my money, the item that i'm selling and it would put me off of ebay for a long time.

    Thanks for your advice ;)

Hello dominik,
please be careful. if you want to transact business via the internet and the terms are like that, dont just trust them that if they already received the item they will send you the money. don't ever believe people like that unless you'd be meeting in one place wherein you will give the object and the other person will hand over the money to you.

As i see to what you have told us here, this is clearly a scam.

Please be careful. Dont ever trust easily just like that. Follow your instincts.

i just wrote a really long comment but it got deleted by accident so I'm gonna be short this time.

i totally agree with you and i told that person that the best thing to do is to cancel the transaction and if they want they can buy from me again when they get there paypal account sorted but for my own security i can't post the item until the payment clears.

I trust people way too much but after reading some horror stories about people getting scammed and paypal not being helpful at all, I realised that there are way too many untrustworthy people out there. I'm new at selling on ebay and I know that for that reason i'm an easy target.
I already have some people pretending to buy some staff and then their account is suddenly closed by ebay. It happened three times already and I think it just happened again because someone bought something from me and havn't paid (evan though i request immediate payment) and then sent me exactly the same message as the person before, who got their account closed by ebay. So I'm kinda expecting a message from ebay soon. Either way i have to keep relisting my items because of people like that.

Thanks for your advice. And you're right I do have to be more careful and listen to my instincts.

Ps: just as I'm writing this, that person replied to me with this message:

    " Hi,

Weird, I have not purchased this item. I never use eBay. I will report as fraudulent. "

So I asked who was I talking to all this time then ?? (we exchanged number of messages)

i wonder what his reply is going to be..

once again thanks for your help.
i might have lost a potential customer but i saved my money, my item and avoided being put off of ebay for a really REALLY long time. although i kinda lost faith in the system anyway.

hi dominik! :) thanks for the replies. dont worry i like to read and it's nice that somehow i have helped.
in my country (Philippines) people who transact using the internet like Ebay and here, i think most use sulit.com, their usual payment terms is to meet in a place the parties have agreed upon.then the trade would happen there. and i definitely agree with you, you might really have lost a customer (well, i think he/she is a bad one) but you have protected your capital, right? we are all trying to be fair, to do business in this world so that we won't be asking other people's help to feed us or sustain our needs, but there's just some bad people around who wouldn't play fair. Again, I'm glad I have been of help. Take care and I'm happy to know that I have talked to someone here who makes sense. Good day!

In Paypal there should be a spot with your transactions. All you need to do is click the transaction details and then about halfway down it should say issue a refund and just go through that and it should get it sent back where its supposed to.

Do I give my name and address to someone who would like to purchase an item??? I have someone who would like to purchase the item i am selling

You can provide the info BUT your transaction won't be covered under Ebay / Paypal's Seller Protection policy.

So if your buyer sends you some Paypal money and you ship the item, he can just turn around and take the money back and claim the item was never sent. You won't be protected, meaning you'll lose your item and the money so be careful!

I sold an item on ebay and the buyer didn't like it; says it wasn't what was described but it was returned badly damaged. How am I expected to issue a refund?

Hi there!
If you received the item you sold in a bad condition, you can report the buyer to the resolution team of eBay although it will took too long for them to take action. Here's the link that you can use to report the transaction: http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_base/result_3_6_2.html
I hope this helps you. Have a great day!

Hi there!
In this case you need to contact eBay Billing support and they will just need to adjust it for you, it can be like a credit in your account or something like that but more importantly, they can remove the fee in your account.

i ran out of stock of an item just sold. No one likes to disappoint a customer. But my customer is WAY out of bounds. He can't force me to sell what I do not possess. I asked the buyer if he would politely cancel a transaction. I simply do not have the item.It really was an honest mistake. I mean we have a really good feedback score

Contact Paypal. They have a claims resolution department. The bonus is that they are OWNED by ebay. You shouldn't have any problems receiving your refund.
