Question about HP DesignJet 100 Plus InkJet Printer

3 Answers

I have a HP Designjet100 Plus. The black went from ok to light to nothing. I have cleaned the printer head manually and thru the maintainance setting on the machine. Any suggestions? Do i need to buy a new printer head?

Hello. You may have air in the black ink tube. If so, when you put a new print head in the plotter, it will print with the ink from the factory and then draw air into the print head and cause the symptoms you described. Purge the tube system and replace the black print head (unless you can disassemble and refill with ink - something I have not tried). Try this: Designjet Ink Tube Priming Tool

You can try to disassemble the printhead and check for contamination.
First remove cap 1
I have a HP Designjet100 - xamazedx_0.jpg
than using a small flat screwdriver disassemble printhead (engagement points 2 and 3)

xamazedx_1.jpg

Warning - a printhead is filled with 8 ml ink

After disassembly - clean the printhead with fluid compatible with pigment ink (for black color) or compatible with water based ink (color printheads)

during reassembly - don't forget to fill the printhead with ink (2/3 of its volume)

Remove print head?

The instruction to remove the printer head are likely on you tube. Usually they just snap in and out. Once you get it out. Run warm water over it for about 3-4 minutes. Once it's rinsed dry it with a hair dyer. Don't worry about distiller water. Drinking water works great. Snap it back in and try it. Good luck!

Hp 6500a plus printhead won't print

Hi,
As you said that you have already cleaned the print heads it could be the contacts inside the printer has gone bad. Its suggested by HP that if you get any error regarding the print head you should contact them and they will replace the printer. Please do so. Thanks.

My deskjet 3745 wii not print with new ink. The cartridge shows full and the printer goes thru all the motions. The final print is no color and light black

Use the HP software (installed when you installed the printer) to run a "print-head-cleaning" cycle -- you've got lots of ink, but the print-heads are CLOGGED.

My 5180 will not print black. it has a new cartrigde

Your print head is separated from your cartridge. I think that your print head is clogged, and that is why you can't print even with a new cartridge. The cartridge in your case is just a tank with ink, the print head is inside the printer.

You can do a software cleaning to unclog the print head.
  1. Click "Start", then "All Programs", then click on HP and then click on "HP Solution Center"
  2. Click on "Settings"
  3. Click on "Print Settings"
  4. Click "Printer Toolbox"
On the "Device Services" tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges and then follow the onscreen instructions. There are three levels of cleaning available, depending on how long you haven't print.

When the printer is done, it should print a test page. If everything seems ok, just print. If not, you will need to repeat the procedure.
You should also know that software cleaning uses a lot of ink.

Hope that will help solve your problem!

Hp 8500 refuses to print

It is a problem using refilled toner cartridges, especially in colour machines. Mono (Black) printers are usually ok to use a good quality refilled cartridge, but colour machines generally do not like them.

Have you tried to print a Configuration page from the control panel <Information> menu?

Printer not printing black

The head may need to be removed and cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab or you can purchase a head cleaning kit with instructions. The toner sometimes needs replacement

H/P C6180 black not printing

Had the same problem for weeks. Had to go thru all three levels of print head cleaning in the HP Toolbox menu to get black to work again. The head cleaning option on the printer itself was insufficient. Unless you've already gone thru all three cleaning levels this may be worth a try.

I walked thru the steps via the HP website FAQs for the 6180. Basically: Open the HP Solution Center, select Settings->Print Settings->Printer Toolbox, then click Clean the Printheads. After the first cleaning you'll be asked if the test page printed OK (mine didn't), click the Intermediate Cleaning box. You'll be asked again if the test page printed OK (mine did, but an independent MSWord print test was still streaky), click the clean again (sorry, don't remember what this one was called) for the third and deepest clean.

This last one worked for me, now it's back to normal printing. From what the HP website says I'm guessing that my black print head was dried up. That's a reasonable explanation for my situation, we had let the black sit dormant for a couple of weeks after the black cartridge ran out before we tried to install a replacement.

Hope this helps, sure was frustrating for me. Good luck.

Epson C84 inkjet

This typically is not an issue with re-fill cartridges, but it could be. At this point, if you have replaced the cartridges, ran cleaning cycles AND called Epson, that's all you can do. I would advise just replacing the unit as it's too expensive to fix.
