because iphone doesnt support cdma network and even though vodafone has a sim card it is still verizon and verizon is cdma at&t is a gsm network and the iphone will only work on a gsm network like tmobile, at&t, etc.
cdma does not use SIM cards, for one. If it has a SIM card, then it is GSM. search google or another search engine for a website where you can get the unlock code for the phone. it's usually 20 bucks...but some carriers give you the unlock code for free if you email them depending on if you're a customer or not
