Question about Toshiba 72HM196 72" Television

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba tv model 72HM196 and it will no longer turn on. It starts with a blue light and then turns to yellow, blinking about 20 times then trys to restart. Already replaces the bulb and that did not work.

This can be a few things:

First, you will need to by-pass the lamp door sensor to "test" to see if it's not activating.

Secondly, you will need to locate the thermal fuse nearest the bulbs housing. This sits near the external of the bulb inside the tv.

Third, while you are checking the thermal fuse, see if the bulb is lighting at all. If the bulb does light you will be looking at a burnt DMD board. These get expensive, but worth checking.

Lastly, while you are looking for the thermal fuse INSIDE the tv, check your power supply for any popped capacitors.

I have a Toshiba tv model 72HM196 and it will no - drewpalmer04_75.jpg
Also, read your voltages on the ballast for the bulb itself. These are HIGH voltages, so make sure your multimeter can handle this.

Thank you and best of luck!

How do i determine if my ballast board or capacitor is bad in my toshiba hd tv model no 57HM167?

The chances of the ballast failing are small on this model. Count how many times the Yellow light flashes before it pauses. Then google 57HM167 and the amount of blinks. ie " 57HM167 Yellow light flashes 3 times" That will tell you what you need to know. You can also post it here and we can help. I suspect you have a stuck fan(the fans are monitored to see if they are spinning. If not, they will not allow the TV to start up). Or you have the cover for the lamp not installed all the way. There is a switch that the lamp cover activates and the the TV will not turn on without it secured.

Wont turn on yellow light blinks 3 times pause and repeats no other lights on

If you can't get it on, you'll have to have a new Ballast assembly. Try unplugging it from the wall outlet. You may have to do this several times. Keep trying. If it won't start, probably the ballast. Always change the lamp with new if ballast gets changed. I got mine from Ebay.

72hm196 toshiba dlp HD 1080. What is the problem of my tv when the yellow led lights is blinking and which parts need to fix it

It should be due to a problem to cooling fan [DLP]. If you wish to get more details about blinking codes, surf the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by type in the model name to your set in its search box, or view it in Timeslide / Mosaic option.

What's your problem? won't turn on..... yellow/orange light continually flashes three times...

Toshiba Regza 37in - 37HL17
TV will not turn on - Yellow power ind. Light blinks three times...
Fixed with a firmware update (hard to believe, but true). Search Google for a file named: 2007SEN069.zip (don't worry if the page you find it on doesn't mention the 37HL17 - it worked fine). Unzip the file, and copy the 3 folders and 3 files to the root of a small SD card. The SD card MUST be 2GB or less in size (I used a 1GB card), and it MUST be formatted with FAT-16 (not FAT-32). Mine was pre-formatted as FAT (FAT-16). The SD port is on the back of the TV behind a cover plate near the power cable. You do NOT need to remove the back cover of the TV, just the small cover plate (1 screw). UNPLUG the TV; remove the cover plate; insert the SD card (prepped as explained above); Plug in the TV; Watch the yellow lights blink, then turn blue, then go dark; UNPLUG the TV; remove the SD Card and replace the cover; Plug in the TV; Yellow lights will blink a few times (this is normal); when blinking stops, turn on the TV and you should be good to go. :-)

Wont turn on but yellow light is flashing

I followed the steps at the following link and it worked for me. I have a 2007 Toshiba Regza 42HL67, but the firmware applies to many models as documented in the readme file at the location found via the link below. I used a 1gb SD card formatted FAT16, copied the unzipped files and folder to the card (wasn't sure if it required the top level folder or only the files under the top level folder so I copied both to the root of the SD card), unplugged the TV, inserted the card, plugged in the TV, waited 2.5 minutes, unplugged the TV, removed the card, plugged in the TV, yellow light flashed 3 times and went out. I turned on the TV and it has worked normally since last night.
