Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

My washer will go into spin cycle and drain properly then fill again and will hum real loud then draws alot of energy (light have dimmed and its blown a fuses) and then stops completely. Here is what i've done so far I have taken the motor out and ran it on spin cycle and it spins with no issues. I've manualy turned the wash basket by hand by turning the shaft coming out top of the gear case and by turning the direct drive coupling going into the gear case. I've checked the drain pump and it is clear of debree.

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
There are a few things that may cause this i will list them here below for you ok?
Many washers Clutch If your washer was made by GE®, it may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all.
If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.
Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. Drive pulleys The motor or transmission drive pulley may be worn and unable to turn the drive belt. If so, replace the pulley. Transmission The transmission could have either of these problems: they have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may not agitate properly or at all.this is fairly common here The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem. If you suspect a transmission problem, you may have to call a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it. if you feeel like you could do these repairs on this please send me a post so i can send you the correct repair procedures for this machine i need the make and model of this machine ok ?
Hope this is very helpful best regards Mike

It would seem to me than that your transmission is failing even though you can turn it by hand but under a load it cannon operate thus giving you the hummiing sound

alos the reason that it wont start again for a while is that the motor is trying it's best to make the basket move but it cant so it will heat up and over load then the motor will trip on overload and heat and sits for 15 min to 30 min then it is reset again you can take out the transmisson and open the case and see if there is any worn out gears or something in there that doesent look right ok

If it hums real loud during water fill then its the water fill solenoid valve shorted,if it hums after it starts again, then it could be a broken brake shoe or control for the brake on the top of the transmission or a bad transmission bearing in a neutral drain transmission

I have a Kenmore top loading large capacity washer model 1028882791. It began washing as usual then began to making a loud humming sound. The agitation stopped. It only makes a loud humming sound. I...

The humming sound is coming from the drive motor running but unable to drive the agitator nor the basket to spin. The drive motor is definitely running as the drain function works because of the fact that drain pump is directly coupled with the rear spline of the motor. The drain pump works in either direction as long as the motor runs. The problem is obviously a broken motor coupler which transfers the mechanical energy of the motor to the transmission. The solution then is to replace the broken coupler. Click on the link below for the detailed step-by-step procedure in replacing the motor coupler.

Sounds like a motor problem drawing to many amps dimming lights. Check drain pump to see if pump has obstruction in it causing resistance. Run machine while pump is off to see if light dim.

Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

Something must have gotten into the drain pump. You drop the fromt panel on most of theses and open the pump sump, get the coin or whatever out of it.

Ge wvsr1060a2ww washer does not spin or agitate

first look to see if this is a belt drive. If not look for a coupler(round black rubber piece with three holes, three plastic fingers from both sides going in it) from the motor to the gearcase. The motor sit between the pump and gearcase, it will pump out, but not spin.

Spin cycle issue

if this is a frigidaire as in the healine , then see if the tub turns over at all. if not then it may be the inverter board located on the bottom right rear. If there is water left in the tub now that water should drain before it will fill again. check drain pump for obstruction/operation.
for the inverter, there is a techsheet in the bottom attached to the wall, It gives info for checking it. Have a multimeter handy.
