Question about Computers & Internet

Router: F5D8233-4v3 I have been having problems with my xbox for months and decided that i wanted to resolve the problem. i forwarded all the necessary ports and put the xbox's ip address in the dmz and enabled it. this did the trick and it has opened my nat and i can join all my friends parties etc. the only problem now is that i cannot connect to the internet wirelessly anymore via my laptop (what i mean is that i can connect to the router and it says that i am connected to the internet, but when i try to do this, it just loads up a blank webpage). the routers wireless icon now flashes amber then changes to blue for about 2-5 seconds and then starts flashing again... quite frustrating. thanks for the help in advance!

The wireless light when lit up in AMBER says, either you are trying to connect with a wrong password or the security enabled in the router is not compatible with your laptop. If you have the security enabled as WPA/WPA2 in the router, then change it into 64bitWEP. Also change the name of the network (SSID) to prevent any future issues with SSID.

Frezzing up loosing conection

If your Xbox is doing this a lot, check your internet connection on your Xbox. If there is any triangle with ! or any ! point in there it means you have NAT problem. Which will make you lose connection. In order to counter that, you will have to go into your router and fix your NAT by going into port forwarding and putting different types of numbers, which you can look up nearly anywhere on the internet. Just search Port Forwarding numbers for Xbox 360 and it should show what you need to put in.

If you don't have any problems with your NAT, it could be your router is older. I would recommend buying a newer one.

Also this goes without saying but make sure your Xbox has plenty of room to breath and has lots of air getting to it as they do shut down and freeze if they are too hot.

Port forwarding on Linksys SRW224G4P

Google took me straight to the manual. This is a Switch not a router so it operates in layer-2 (ethernet). Layer-2 ports are the interfaces on the back of the switch. You want a router that can do layer-3 TCP/IP port forwarding. Layer-3 ports are unsigned 16-bit integers associated with an IP address and a protocol.

My xbox 360 is saying i have a srict nat type how do i get it to open?

You may want to turn on port forwarding for your xbox (This article explains how to do it....keep in mind, the settings are different for different routers:

If port forwarding does not work you may want to add your xbox IP address to a DMZ in your router (again the settings are different for every router, but your router's manual should have how to do it)

Good Luck.

I cant get ny linksys router to work for my computer and my xbox at the same time?

There may be a place in the router panel just for the xbox, there is in mine. Also, you may need to forward some ports for that. I flashed my router with DDWRT, and that router panel is awsum. If you decide to flash the router with DDWRT, be VERY careful, follow the instructions to the T. If you brick the router you're screwed.

Firewall settings blocking internet from Live. I know which ports need to be open, but i dont know how to open them (I have a U.S Robotics router)

You must do port forwarding now to resolve the firewall problem. Call xbox on what port you must forward on the router's admin page for the xbox live. If I remember it correctly, xbox live uses port 3074 TCP and UDP, 88 TCP and UDP, 53 TCP and UDP, 80 TCP and UDP

Belkin + xbox live problems

It's not the MTU problem any more. Its the router's firewall. To resolve it, you two steps to try. First, try to do port forwarding, you must forward the port for XBOX Live to the router's admin page. I believe the ports are 3074 TCP and UDP, 53 TCP and UDP, 88 TCP and UDP. If that doesn't work, try to just disable the router's firewall itself. One of these steps will surely fix your problem

Opening the NAT connection for Xbox 360 working through 2 routers

  1. How do you connect your Linksys router to Belkin router? Do you connect your Linksys router to the Internet/WAN port of the Belkin?
  2. If so, what is the Internet connection type set in your Belkin router? Is it dynamic?
  3. If the Belkin router is set to dynamic IP and if it is obtaining an IP address from your Linksys router(you may check the status page of your Belkin router and look for IP address), then you may need to forward or set that IP address as the DMZ to your Linksys router. Make sure that XBOX is still configured as the DMZ host in your Belkin
Hope this helps!

Hello my mtu is sayin its failed

The MTU(Maximum Transmission Unit) failure when testing the xbox's connection can be do to a few things because Xbox live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Sharing a slower internet connection with other PC's in the house can cause this error, The incorrect MTU setting in your routers programming can cause this error, The lack of firmware updates to your router can cause this error, an older modem from your service provider can cause this. Old or worn network cables and jacks and or RG(coax) cables if you have cable internet could cause this. Your Router or gateway could be incompatible with Xbox live.

Try a direct connection to the Xbox without a router and reset your modem before doing it. If your able to connect then you know its the router. If not you know its the modem or cables or jacks or even your Xbox if you havent tested it elsewhere.
You can tell your ISP to mail you the newest updated modem... sometimes they will have a guy just drop one off.
