Its low on refrigerant if you mean the refrigerant lines have frost on them, sometimes if you use them in to cool of an area with lots of humidity they will do this too

How to your prevent your santa fe dehumidifier from freezing up

If you are running the unit set to max, that is a mistake. The folks at Sylvane advised me to set it at about 45%-50%. They have a lot of info on the Santa Fe Dehumidifier at their website.

Dehumidifier freezing up

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FDL25P1, is freezing up. First, if your dehumidifier has been turned on recently. This is normal due to refrigerant rushing through the coil. Frost will usually disappear within 60 minutes. Secondly, make sure the room temperature is above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is too cold in the room, the coils can freeze. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

Dehumidifier freezes up

Good Morning Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# LAD704TDL, is freezing up. If you have turned on your dehumidifier recently, this is normal due to refrigerant rushing through the coil. Frost will usually disappear within 60 minutes. Try starting your dehumidifier on a slower fan setting. Another possibility is that the room temperature is too low or too high. Your appliance is designed to operate between 41 degrees F (5 degrees C), and 96 degrees F (35 degrees C). I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your air conditioner status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

DEHUMIDIFER COILS FREEZE OVER, WHETHER MACHINE IS RUNNIG ON LOW OR HIGH. FILTERS ARE ALL CLEAN.

Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF, unplug the unit and allow it to thaw out completely. You may want to put some old towels under it, to absorb the dripping water. Once it has completely thawed, remove the bucket, the air intake filter and the face of the cabinet. You should now have access to the coils. Clean them with a mild soap and warm water. Rinse and thoroughly dry the coils. Once they are totally dry, spray a very light film of WD40 on the coils and then wipe off any over spray. Reinstall all the remove parts and test the unit.

Keep in mind, if you are using the dehumidifier in a basement, the air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. Dehumidifiers don't work well between 40 & 60 degrees F. (Unless, they are a low temp unit). Any lower, the coils will freeze. Raise the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table or counter top, that can hold the weight of the unit plus, a full tank of water. In a basement application, doing usually solves the problem of freezing coils.

If after doing all the above, the coils still freeze during operation, the compressor may below on freon and needs to be recharged. Or the defrost sensor on the unit, needs to be replaced.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

The coils keep freezing on my gold star dehumidifier

Try turning the setting down lower in order to help the unit cycle on and off, rather than have to run constantly.

It could be that your situation requires more than one dehumidifier for the space you're trying to cover with this one unit. These units are not designed to operate 24/7 without cycling on and off frequently.

The situation you're experiencing tells me that you have either an extreme amount of moisture where the unit is placed, or the area is much to large for just one unit to handle. If you can issolate the unit to one area by closing a door, etc. if that isn't possible, you'll likely need another dehumidifier to help reduce the load on this one that's freezing up while helping reduce the amount of moisture in the area.

If that doesn't help, please provide more details about the area the unit is being used in and the size of the room, etc., so I can further assist you in solving the problem. Thanks!

Dehumidifier Freezing up

Based on the information provided above, I am unable to provide a positive solution to your issue. I have provided some common solutions to help guide you in your search.

This link, http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SmartSearch.aspx, provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again. Just follow the links to navigate through the site.

You will need to enter the model number stamped on the manufacturers product information data tag, located on the unit, and not in the User’s Manual. to access your product information.

Clicking on the underlined links will take you directly to that page.

Note: A volt-ohm meter is beneficial in performing electrical tests.

Some models utilize a defrost thermostat that simply switches the compressor off and on. This can be replaced by unsnapping it from the condensor coil.

Another type uses a defrost control kit to cycle the compressor and is a little more involved in the replacement.
