SOURCE: I bought a CITIZEN watch
Most counterfeit watches are designed to fool the casual observer, and as a result, the manufacturers focus on making the outside of the watch look as much like the original as possible. However, to save money, the inside of the watch (i.e., the movement) is usually quite different from what's in the original watch.
One relatively reliable way to check whether your watch is genuine is to remove the back and see what's inside. Is the inside of the case back stamped "Citizen"? Is there a Citizen brand on the movement (note: not all Citizen movements may be branded with a Citizen logo). For greatest reliability, I would take your watch to a jeweler who sells Citizen watches and pay them a few dollars to pop open the back and examine the movement. They will be able to recognize whether you have a genuine Citizen movement in the watch, and the peace of mind you receive may be well worth the $5 or so I expect they'd charge you for this service.
In addition to the movement, counterfeit watches with steel bracelets often have cheaper quality links than the watch they are copying. However, this is not always the case; as it's become cheaper to manufacture good quality watch bracelets, some counterfeits have watch bands that are just about as good as the real thing, and it takes an expert to find the differences.

look for a mode button then you can scroll to the setting you which to change. once you are there look for an adjust (or similar) button. you hold that down until something flashes or it allows you to change the desired setting. also refer to your user manual if the watch came with one
