Question about Samsung Spinpoint MT2 HM100UI 1TB SATA 2.5'' Notebook 8MB Cache - OEM SATA II Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hi, I have dropped my iOmega portable HDD. The actual drive inside the iOmega case is a Samsung 1TB HM100UI. Now when connecting power to the drive I get a sequence of beeps/sounds then nothing. The beeps are very quiet. I have removed the drive from the case and tried with an external power source but receive the same beeps when power is connected. Is there any way to repair the drive or recover the data? Thanks Richard

If you remove the drive and connect it to a pc using the sata cables it could work if you only damaged the controler.

In my experience it is more likely the drive itself is damaged. If this happens and the read/write head or the magnetic store is physically damagedthe only way is to ask a data recovery company. The good news is that recovering a single drive is relatively cheap......

Get an offer and think if the data are worth it.

Iomega eGo Helium 1TB has a damaged PCB. Local 1TB Casing do detects the HDD and its Drives. BUT asks for Formating the Drives. Which case can be purchased. how to recover the data. ?

It might be tricky, but you can remove the hdd from its casing, and install into a pc with compatible connections as a slave drive. Make sure to handle the drive carefully, and try to copy any data you want to another drive on the pc, then run chkdsk X: /f /r on the affected drive.
Another possible solution is to rightclick on My Computer, Manage, go to the drive mangement menu, and rightclick on the drive, and import it into your system so that windows can recognize it.

My iOmega 1TB USB 3.0 won't stay connected to my MacBook. The connection seems to go in and out, and now it won't detect it at all. Is this a situation where I should buy a new USB cable?

Digital cables are very much unlike analog cables. With analog you will get partial signals like channels with fuzz with deteriorated images. Digital cables, like the one you use with your portable HDD carry signals that work very much like binary code, either OFF/ON. (1/0) The fact that you are experiencing quick connection and disconnections could easily be a faulty usb cable OR a faulty port on EITHER your computer OR the HDD itself. Try to borrow a similar cable to test that it is not the devices ports (your computer OR the HDD) before purchasing a cable. If the devices ports are not functioning properly you will have to RMA or use your warranty.
Hope this helped!

My iomega external hard drive just beeps when ever i turn it on. How can I fix this?

ummm, i fixed my problem i had with a iomega 500gb external hard drive, it was beeping at me also, so what i did was i knocked it on its side, switched it off, by its own panel, then switched it back on, it came back into life and was recognised again!!

so try it with yours!

I think what what happens is, when you accidentally drop it, or knock it from time time(accidentally), the needle inside the hard drive goes out of place, and the hard drive will beep, or something to that effect. knocking the case itself again, might fix the problem, or maybe not, thats if the hard drive itself is more severely/inherentally faulty.

Starts to spin then stops

Either the power supply is failing, or the drive has gone defective.
Check with IOmega, it's probably under warranty.
If it isn't, open up the casing and see whose drive (ie, Seagate, Samsung, Maxtor) they used, because the drive itself may be under warranty by the manufacturer.
Before doing that though, connect the drive inside your PC and see if it works.
If it does, just permanently mount it in there because the external boxs' power supply is shot.
If it works in the PC and you really need it to be external, just buy an external hard disk enclosure.
They are about $30 in most places, and that'll FixYa right up!

Hello, I plugged in my iomega 1tb desktop hard drive storage device and the drive does not appear in my drive or computer. I do have the new hardware 'sound' that comes up but I dont have the drive show up...

Iomega 1TB Desktop Hard Drive is a dedicated usb 2.0 plug and play external storage device that has an ability to transfer at 480Mbits/second. having these large capacity storage drive needs a fast connection and additional power source to make sure to run the external unit system properly.

just make sure both power and data cables are properly plugged and connected respectively. if you are using it with a desktop, please always plug your usb connection from the Iomega 1TB external drive to the rear USB port in line where you built-in LAN is.do not plug it in the frontload ports. some motherboard manufacturers uses usb 1 and/or 1.1 only for frontload desktop casing provision.

thank you.
