I have a belvedere quartz 'vintage' wall clock, I believe the model is SU9241W. The batteries powering the westminster chimes became flat. I have installed new batteries but need to reset the chimes. A certain number of 'pushes' on the reset button will reset the chimes to the next hour (I think).. Unfortunately I have misplaced the manual that came with the clock so do not know how many 'pushes' are required to reset the chimes. The manual had this information in it. Can you please help! Thank you. Graham Borlace

SOURCE: Elgin Westminster Quartz Chime clock won't work

IF I GATHER CORRECTLY , YOUR CLOCK HAS TWO BATTERIES, ONE AT BASE AND ANOTHER ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT. THE ONE ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLOCK'S FUNCTIONALITY AND I THINK THE BATTERY AT BASE IS FOR THE ROTATING BALLS ( PENDULUM ). SO OPEN UP THE BACK IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO, AND REPLACE THE BATTERY. CAREFULLY THOUH AS THERE RE TWO SCREWS ON TOP AND A SNAP AT CENTER BOTTOM WHICH YOU COULD EASILY BREAK IF YOU DO NOT DO IT WITH CARE. OPEN UP THE SCREWS FIRST AND GENTLY USING A SCREW DRIVER PUSH BACK ON THE SNAP HOLE TO FORCE IT UPWARDS AND INWARDS. IF NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE THEN WE ARE LOOKING AT TWO DIFFERENT CLOCKS.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

I'm afraid you have to visit clock repair shop, as without close inspection it is not possible to say what's wrong with your clock.

How do you Synchronise a Westminster chime clock?
Set the time by moving the big hand forward, pausing at the 11 o'clock position. Listen for the subtle sound of a spring unwinding before moving further. Move the big hand to the 12 o'clock position. Pause and listen for the clock to strike the number of times indicated by the little hand.

How to set a classic manor quartz west minister wall clock to chime at the correct time.

Hello Fern Hicks,

Short of ORDERING IN A NEW movement I
would rather try removing the hands... and placing them where they are chime appropriate...

I'm sure there are more convoluted ways of accomplishing the same thing... but I so old & clock oriented... I only turn clocks & timers in the FORWARD direction (very OLD school).

Remove the minutes hand (from where-ever it strikes)...
Move the hour hand (only if necessary & replace the minute hand as appropriate to the movement strike.

Seiko Westminster Chime Clock; Model No. QF0020 (or QF002G)

There is a small potentiometer that the volume know is on, probably replacing the pot will fix the problem. Radio Shack has these.
