Hi Cyril and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

What you want to do is not that hard. AU power is 50 Hz which means that your generator will run at 3000 RPM vs 3600 RPM. If this is a diesel it will run at 1500 RPM vs 1800 RPM. Smaller single engine diesels run at 3000 to 3600 RPM. Slowing the run speed is a matter of adjusting the governor speed plate off to the side of the governor arm. Then the voltage regulator will have to be re-adjusted up to 230 / 240 VAC.

Frequency is controlled by engine speed. Voltage is controlled by the voltage regulator. It is nearly impossible for me to guess the model number your genset / alternator as each manufacturer will use their own part numbers. Here is another problem... if the Alternator end is an inverter type power head the voltage can only be adjusted by changing the 2 large condensor / capacitors.

I may be able to help you but I really nead a complete model number for the generator set. If you know the engine model number I can probably find the manual for you that would show you the components of the governor speed plate. Most times it is a matter of losening a locking nut on a screw and turning the screw CCW to slow engine speed then securing the locking nut on the speed set screw. There can be a nut on the face of the speed plate that you barely have to loosen to make the speed adjustment. Just make sure to tighten the nut again once you set the speed.

Without a model number I am hung out to dry trying to help you. With the Engine and Gen/power head model numbers I can do a much better job of trying to help you.

Forgot to mention one other obstacle you will encounter. If the generator has a 60Hz control module and you slow the engine speed to 50 Hz for 60 Hz. It will display and under-frequency fault and shut down. I do not know of any control modules that you can adjust the frequency setting. They are either 50 Hz or 60 Hz. On a less sofisticated generator without fault detection all you do is slow the engine speed and make the changes for increasing the voltage at a lower RPM.

Have a newage stamford alternator c20a kva 15.625 bolted to a deutz model f2l912 engine and have tried to pull the 2 components apart but can only get the 2 parts about 1 inch apart anybody got the an

from what you are describing the generator is a 15 kva unit bolted to the back of a deutz engine
check the end of the alternator armature for a bolt head. it is possible that there is a long bolt going through the centre of the armature shaft and holding the armature to the crankshaft on a taper
some older units used 4 rubber blocks in the drive from the crank shaft and there is a plate to retain them in place ( They were a safety device to protect the unit from damage if the mains power come back on while the generator was running. The out of phasing would stop the armature and rip the rubber blocks up)

Only has 120 volts,can not get 240volts

the generator consists of 2 120volt windings that run in parallel for 120 volts and in series for 240, check the change over switch make sure a wire hasn't fallen off, if you have a multi meter check both coils have the same resistance

On off switch on generator not working

If the unit is starting with no wires to/from the switch, then likely the switch is just supposed to ground the spark in order to stop the engine.

What size wire and how does it hook to thr unit rpkb-036jaz

Look at rating plate on side of unit for Volts, Amps, Watts.
Volts x amps = watts.
If unit is 240Volts, then you need double-pole 240Volt breaker
If unit is 8500 watts at max power, then 8500 watts divided by 240Volts = 35 amps.

What size breaker for 35 amps?
When electricians figure load rating for breakers, they use the 80% rule.
40 amp breaker x 80% = 32 amp safe maximum load for 40 amp breaker. Use 8 gauge wire with 40 amp breaker.
50 amp breaker x 80% = 40 amp safe maximum for 50 amp breaker. I use 6 gauge wire with 50 amp breaker.
60 amp breaker x 80% = 48 amp safe maximum for 60 amp breaker. Again, use 6 gauge wire with 60 amp breaker.

How to connect wires to unit.
First of all, all outdoor HVAC units require power cut off located next to unit.
This lets the mechanic, or service tech turn power off to work on unit, even if the mechanic does not have access to main breaker box.

Next, open unit to see where wires connect.
If unit has wires, then connect both hot wires from 240 breaker to the wires inside unit. Connect bare ground wire to green ground screw.
If unit has terminals. The terminals will be labeled L1 L2. Connect each hot wire from 240Volt breaker to either one of the screw terminals. Then bare ground goes to green ground screw.

Copy following links for basic illustrations connecting wires to terminals, and to breakers, and selecting wire size.

Want to add 240volt outlet to generator

You CANNOT do this, USA 240V is derived from a poly phase scenario, IE 120V line to neautral and 240V line to line, UK 240V is derived from 1 line to neutral it will not work unless you power a transformer

Outdoor a/c unit is cyclying on and off, not

Check the contactor at the outdoor unit. Look for burnt/pitted contacts. Replace if necessary and test your system again with the new contactor. If your contactor is okay, do the following:
When the unit shuts off, test for 24volts at the contactor coil. If 24 volts exists, test for 240volts on the LINE side of the contactor. If you have 24volts coil voltage and 240volts LINE voltage with the unit not running, the problem will be your compressor contactor or a wiring problem (should be evident with visual inspection). If you have 24volts coil voltage and no 240 volts, then you have an electrical problem (loose wires/connections) between your main circuit breaker box and your A/C. If you do not have 24volts coil voltage, then you have to determine why........try jumpering Y & R at the indoor unit (put fan in ON) and see if the unit runs continuously. If it does, the problem is either your thermostat or Y wire between your t-stat and indoor unit. If it does not run continuously, then the problem is in your wire between your indoor unit and your outdoor unit.

I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you moving forward. :-)

Where can I find a wiring diagram to install a generator into a boat? I know how to wite the 110 volt side but where do I connect the 12 volt power from the generator into the 12 volt distribution panel?

Installing a generator into a boat is critical to be done correctly. You need to contact the manufacturer of your generator for approval, and wiring diagrams. If done incorrectly (which if you are connecting 12v from gen), you may create eddy fields that can cause galvanic corrosion, not to mention electrical shock hazards.

If your generator isn't marine rated, then don't install it into a boat.

Portable generators can be used, but don't hardwire those into a boat. Just use extension cords to the appliances you want to power.

Need a diagram for this overcomplicated machine

Will probably bin it. Long experience shows that the ONLY alternators worth having are the British made Newage-Markon which IMHO are superior to both Sawafuji and Mecc-Alte. Voltage Dependent Resistors (VDRs) also known as Transorbs are essential if long term reliability is desired from small gensets. Haverhill Generators get around the voltage spike problem another way - 8 microfarads across the output but one Haverhill generator that I repaired had vibrated apart its control box wiring and fan. These little machines all leave a lot to be desired unfortunately and seem to give endless trouble.
