Check your connections for loose wires. If it is correctly installed it should show up as new hardware recognised on startup.

I have a gateway laptop and i am trying to watch movies but it says the dvd decoder isn't installed it is an LG.

Hello,

Install the dvd driver into your computer. You can also try using RadarSync to update the decoder. I think it went outdated that's why it's not working properly. Updating it would fix the issue.

How Install Compatible DVD Decoder?

HI,

1Go to the Microsoft website that features DVD decoders that are compatible with Windows XP (see Resources). Select a compatible DVD decoder from the list presented on the Web page, for example, CinePlayer DVD Decoder or Cyberlink PowerDVD SE (see Resources).

    • 2

Follow the menu screens to either purchase the decoder or to buy the serial code needed for installing the decoder. Click on the download link when the link becomes active or appears on the Web page.

    • 3

Double-click the file once downloaded. Enter the purchased serial code if prompted. Follow the menu commands to install the DVD decoder into Windows XP. Close the installation window when completed by clicking the red "X" in the upper right corner. Restart Windows XP.

Computer won't play or recognize anything on dvd-

Looks like you are missing the DVD decoder. If you are using Windows lower than Vista Home Basic (Including) like Windows XP, they do not have the DVD decoder installed natively. Download a decoder and install it. Better still get a Good DVD player like Win DVD Player. You can also try this. Install a trial version of a DVD player. Even after the trial period expires probably your DVD will still work since the decoder is now there. Not checked but it might. In any case, if you like the player you can make it fully licensed on-line.

My computer doesnot produce sound when iam playing music

Firstly check your device manager to assure that all drivers are installed properly, If there are no errors in your device manager
then move to the secend step,
I am assuming that your problem is with DVD playback?
DVD's require a software decoder which unfortunately for some reason have been neglected in the operating system, There are free decoders available if you do an online search for "free DVD Decoder download"
If none of these things remedies your problem let me know, I will reply as soon as I can.
