You need to update (flash) your bios so that it will recognize the new cpu.

I have been given a acer aspire L320 BUT THERE IS NOT A PROCESSOR IN IT. what i want to know is what processor fits.it

The Acer Aspire L320 can take 3 different processors

1. Intel Core 2 Duo

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.8Ghz to 3.3 Ghz

2. Intel Celeron D

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.6Ghz to 2.7Ghz

3. Intel Pentium 4

Single core chip with speeds from 1.3Ghz to 3.8Ghz

The Core 2 Duo 3.3 Ghz is the most expensive and Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz the cheapest.

Some more information is available on the Intel website, links are below:

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya.

Changing CPU - Celeron with Pentium 4 - the PC does not start. Is any switch to modify on mainboard ?

may have to check that its compatible and if so you probably need to upgrade motherboard bios to support new chip. Put old one back in update system bios then install new one if supported. Have run into this many times.

I have just builed the PC with Supermicro P4SCA and when turn it on I get only the wlecone screen sying "SUPERMICRO" and that itm it never go beyond that. Cltr_Alt_Del does not work and I can not access...

Maximum processor supported: Intel Pentium® 4 processors or Intel Celeron processors up to 3.06 GHz (with Hyper Threading) at a system bus speed of 800/533/400 MHz.
Yours is too fast for the motherboard, replace it with an older weaker one.

Upgrading CPU

Yeah, it was a bit hard to find, not being a currernt model I was stuck on the Asus site trying to find out for you.
Then I found this site -
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=6&id=465&pg=
It says
  • Socket 478 for Intel Pentium 4 / Celeron processors
  • Intel Pentium 4 Processors 1.4GHz - 2.53GHz or higher
  • Intel Celeron Processors 1.7GHz - 1.8GHz or higher
  • Supports processors at 400 / 533MHz front side bus
Or higher, it says. But doesn't say how higher. It's a fair assessment that if it is a Pentium 4 socket 478 chip, it should work. Then it's a case of choosing one that suits your budget.
Have a look on the Asus site for the latest BIOS updates too - they might have a clue as to what chip you can go to -
    http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?model=P4S533-MX&product=1&type=All&SLanguage=en
Er, no - it doesn't tell you. But if you go thru the page you will find BIOS version 1005 that " P4S533-MX BIOS 1005
Support new Intel P4 CPU" and the latest bios is 1007.002

There's a motherboard user manual further down on the page. Make sure you choose the English one.
Seems the issue is FSB speed, 533 or 400. No big problem for most, but I did see a Pentium4 3.0Ghz chip at 800 FSB so just check the speed of the processor matches the specs the motherboard handles. Like you say, looks like the 3.2 might be too fast because of the FSB requirement.
Remember, a P4 is going to be quicker than a celeron anyhow so just go with the fastest 533 FSB chip you can find.
    A short-cut to the english manual, here - http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4s533-mx/e1187_p4s533-mx.pdf

Can I use Pentium 4, frequency 3.0 GHz with Asus P4B?

Asus support says the fastest CPU you can use in that MB is a P4 2.6 GHz or a Celeron 2.8 GHz.

For the P4 you need BIOS ver. 1011 and for the Celeron you need ver. 1013.004.

are you sure that you have the same zif socket types either a intel celeron or an intel pentium, they are different socket types, but if theres nothing wrong with your other cpu your not going to see any difference in speed, upgrade your memory, but obviously if your other cpu has failed check the socket types and then reset your bios on the motherboard shorting terminals.
