Install this driver on the new PC and your new system should then be able to recognize the drive and you should be able to access your files.

How to delete Microsoft Windows, how to remove Windows

In this tech article I will go over how to remove Microsoft Windows or revert to a previous version of Windows. Why would you want to delete Windows? You may want to remove Windows because you do not like that version you have installed, or maybe you want a different operating system like Linux.

In my method I will not focus on data backup and recovery. If you wish to backup your data, you can do so. After installation of your operating system you can restore the data from backup.

Install fresh operating system
This method is the easiest and I would say least problematic. This will format(wipe) your hard drive and install a clean operating system. No files will be saved or transferred in this method. So be sure to backup any important data you wish to save as it will be deleted during this method.

1)You will need the operating system media. The operating system you wish to install can be on a DVD or USB flash drive for example.

2)Insert the media and reboot the computer.

3)As the computer is booting up, you will see some options come up during the boot process(very briefly). One of these options will be for your BIOS. It may say press f11 for bios, or DEL for settings. What we want to do is go into the computer BIOS and change the boot order.

4) Once in the BIOS, change your boot order so the operating system media is booted first. For example, if you have your new operating system on a USB flash drive, then you want to make sure the USB flash drive is first in the boot order list.

5)Once you make the boot order changes, exit out of BIOS saving your settings. When your computer reboots again it will boot to the media you selected.

6)Depending on what operating system you had installed before, you may get different options. You may get options to perform a recovery and or to just do a fresh install. We want to make sure you do a fresh install. This will format(wipe) the hard drive and install the operating system you wish to use. The hard drive will be formatted and the operating system installed. Once installed, you will go over settings basic computer settings like language, time, computer name and internet connectivity. This varies depending on the operating system you are using. Be sure to follow the on screen prompts.

If you installed Windows 7 over an older version of Windows
In this method you can revert Windows 7 to a previous version of Windows. The Windows 7 installation will have created a Windows.old folder that contains your previous operating system and personal files. This Windows.old folder is in the root of the Windows partition. Reverting does not keep any current files or settings so beware. Your computer will be reverted to its previous state before Windows 7 was installed.

The following tech article from Microsoft will go over the process to revert Windows 7 to a previous version of Windows that was installed.

The following tech article from Microsoft will go over how to do this process with Windows XP.

Wipe hard drive securely
If you want to truly erase data you will need to use software utilities to do this. Deleting data on your computer or reformatting your hard drive will not completely erase the data. There are numerous software programs out there you can use, free and costly.

A free tool you can use to erase your hard drive is KillDisk. You can click the link below to visit the site and download the software.

How to uninstall windows 7

Step 1:
Delete Windows 7 b> Released in October 2009, Windows 7 is the most recent Microsoft Operating system (as of September 2010). It offers several advances over previous versions of windows, including improved media functions and networking. Windows 7 is not for everyone, however, and there are instances in which someone may wish to remove Windows 7 in favor of an earlier version. There are three ways to delete Windows 7, and the method you use depends on how it was originally installed.

b>Back up the data on your computer. Go to the Windows Start Menu. Select "Computer" and right-click on the "C" drive. Left-click on "Properties" and write down the amount of free space on your drive. Close out of the "C" drive properties and go to the Windows Start Menu. Type "Windows.old" in the "Search Programs and Files" box. If the "Windows.old" folder does not exist, skip the rest of this section and go to the section titled "Remove Windows 7 from a Computer with No Previous Operating System." Right-click the Windows.old folder, left-click on "Properties" and look at the of the folder. Compare the of the folder with the amount of free space on your drive you wrote down in Step 2. The Windows.old folder contains compressed files; if the folder is more than two times the of the amount of free space on your drive, skip the rest of this section and go to the section titled "Remove Windows 7 from a Computer with No Previous Operating System." For example: If you only have 10GB of free space on your C drive and the Windows.old file is 22GB large, when it expands it may use up the remaining 10GB and then some. Insert the Windows 7 installation disc and reboot your machine. Select the option to boot from CD/DVD when prompted. Set the language, time and location-specific settings and click "Next." Select "Repair Your Computer" from the list of installation options. Select your version of Windows 7 and click "Next." Click "Command Prompt" to open the command prompt window. Type the following commands, and hit the "Enter" key after each: C: Md Win7 Move Windows Win7\Windows Move "Program Files" "Win7\Program Files" Move Users Win7\Users Attrib --h --s --r ProgramData Move ProgramData Win7\ProgramData Rd "Documents and Settings" Type the following commands and hit the "Enter" key after each: move /y c:\Windows.old\Windows c:\ move /y "c:\Windows.old\Program Files" c:\ move /y c:\Windows.old\ProgramData c:\ move /y c:\Windows.old\Users c:\ move /y "c:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings" c Restore the boot sector for the earlier version of Windows with one of the following commands: For Vista, type: D:\boot\bootsect /nt52 c: For Windows XP or Windows 2000, type: D:\boot\bootsect /nt60 c: Type the following commands and hit the "Enter" key after each command: Attrib --h --s --r boot.ini.saved Copy boot.ini.saved boot.ini Close the Command Prompt window and reboot your computer. b> Remove Windows 7 From a Multi-Boot System Boot your computer to the Non-Windows 7 Operating system and back up your data. Go to the Windows Start Menu, select "Control Panel" and click "System and Security." Select "Administrative Tools" and double-click "Computer Management." Enter your Administrator Password if prompted. Click "Storage" on the left and select "Disk Management." Locate the drive or partition that is running the Windows 7 operating system. If you have both operating systems on the same partition, skip the rest of this section and go to the section titled "Remove Windows 7 from a Computer with No Previous Operating System." Right-click on the Windows 7 partition, click "Format" or "Delete" to remove Windows 7 from that partition. Click "OK" and reboot your computer. b> Remove Windows 7 from a Computer with No Previous Operating System Back up the data on your hard drive and insert the desired Windows installation disk, such as Windows Vista or Windows XP. Reboot your machine and select the option to boot from CD/DVD. Press "Enter" to start the installation process. Hit F8 to agree to the "Microsoft Software License Terms" and select the option to install a new version of the software. Select the C: drive and highlight the option to format and partition the drive. Press the "Enter" key. Follow the on-screen prompts to install Windows. The computer may reboot several times during the installation process. Enter your product key when prompted.

Hello, this is how I dual boot my laptop with windows xp and windows 7

1. Backup all you important files, use an external hard-disk if possible
2. Make sure you have two drives or partitions: usually drive C and D
3. Insert your xp cd, do a quick format of drive C and install
4. Boot into windows xp and format format drive D if necessary
5. Insert your windows 7 DVD and follow the prompts. When it asks you to upgrade or new install, choose new installation
6. When you are asked to choose a location choose drive D
7. Complete your windows 7 installation
8. Thats it, you can now install drivers and programs

When installation is complete you will see both os options: windows 7 and previous version of windows (i.e xp)

I have done this numerous times without the need for any other step or software. The only rule is to is to install xp first, then windows 7.

All the best

Your new laptop is having trouble reading the file system of your drive. the easiest way around this problem is to copy your drive to another drive. then reattach the drive and when it asks to format it say yes. After it has formatted the drive just see if you can use it to save a doc say and then see if it will delete it. If the drive now works ok then copy back all your data onto it and all should be well.

My laptop came on but my screen is black. I can hear my coputer on but my screen is staying black.

Here are some discrete steps you shall also take besides fixing your Windows 7 registry which is inevitable for safer and stable computing:
* Conduct an antivirus and antimalware scan. Fixing for malwares after a registry scan gives an extra protection to the PC and saves PCs from lots of dangerous infections.
* Start Windows 7 in safe mode and restore your PC/system to the previous date after which you received the Windows 7 updates. It is believed that some updates may be behind these screen issues in Windows 7.
* Adjust your display settings since the wrong settings may also cause the Windows 7 black screen also called the blank screen. You can do this by starting Windows in safe mode.
Follow all the guidelines and start from registry repairing scan for Windows 7 to fix Windows 7 black screen.use registry cleaner reg in out to solve the issue

Sounds like you need to run the recovery disk

If your have the Recovery Disk put it in and boot from cd/dvd,
[Push "F12" at the Toshiba boot screen to access the Boot Menu]

you will loss all your info,,

to save your info [pic's] you will need to plug your hard drive into a desktop with sata.. and back up you info that way then run the disk

if you dont have the disk you will need to get a new windows 7 dvd or contact toshiba for a new Recovery Disk set,

Some times they put the Recovery on the hard drive but i think you need the disk with this one.

How do i get my computer to use my external hard drive which i just installed

Which Operating system are you currently using? By default XP/Vista/7 should have generic drivers sufficient for using the device as external storage, To Check and make sure the drive is being properly recognized simply double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop if using windows XP. Or in Vista/Windows 7, click on the Start Button and then scroll over to Computer and Click. the hard drive should be listed in there. Take note of the drive letter . If you'd like to save items to it simply save to the new drive ( when within the program of your choice, Word, Windows Media Player etc ) by selecting the new drive in the "Save To" Window. ( Be Default most windows systems should store all information on the C:\ Drive ) your new external drive should be listed with a different letter ( F:\ G:\ etc )

Hello, Is the Windows 7 is compatible to my Acer Laptap

Hi,
I would recommend sticking with windows xp on this model. New laptops are getting very inexpensive for the cost of windows 7 your better off buying a new laptop for 300$. If you operating system is performing up to what you think it should. I would consider backing up important data and formating and reinstalling windows.
Thank you,
