Question about APW Wyott EF-30NT Deep Fryer

Open Question

I have a APW Wyott model#EF-30NT deep fryer. The left side works fine but the when you turn on the switch on the right side, the themostat light comes on until the thermostat is turned up to the point where the thermostat clicks, then the temp light goes out and the fryer does not heat up. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

SOURCE: have a apw wyott conveyor toaster, conveyor randomly stops

I had a similar problem I changed the Rear Bearings in the belt & Check the Fan motor in the rear which houses the conveyer Motor wheather it is working or not it could be the fan not working and over heating the motor the last thing is the screws that hold the conveyer motor are too tight as the motor is self adjusting.

First make sure that the thermocouple tube is directly in the pilot light flame. If it is, then the thermocouple is defective.

Deep fryer reset button

Don't know which model you have but I have the DF-280. I had the same issue many people are having (my unit would not power on). The power cord is fine as I've confirmed this with a digital voltmeter. Turns out this particular unit has a safety switch on the right side of the metal/plastic brain unit housing. The switch is underneath the plastic protrusion that is perpendicular (or at a right angle) to the detachable electric plug. You probably won't notice it unless you look for it. My guess is the switch became less sensitive with use and despite being properly mounted to the fryer base, the brain unit did not recognize that it is properly mounted to the fryer base and therefore would not turn on.

The easiest fix for this is to stuff a small piece of paper towel slightly into the slit where the switch is activated and then remount the brain unit onto the fryer base. Another option is to replace the switch or buy a whole new fryer. If your switch actually was the problem, it should now turn on and work properly as mine did. Hope this helps...

I have a apw wyott eletric hot plate model chp-1a. Lately, it keeps on tripping the circuit. Can any one tell what's wrong? thanks. tt

If the breaker trips immediately when you plug it in, then you have a short in the power cord. If it trips when you turn it on then look for a short at the switch or the burner element. If it stays on a while and heats up then trips, it could be a fault inside the element or possible wiring connectors that are not good and tight. Look for discoloration in the wires and connectors.

Apw gas grill causes black suet

All indications are there could be an issue with your burner(s). Check for a blue flame. If the flame is yellowish, there's an issue with air/gas mixture. This would tend to cause flare ups and scorch the food. A thorough cleaning of the burners should resolve this (see attached youtube video)

Also, check all surfaces for any residue grease. Left over grease will burn hot and create the soot you've described.

My keating fryer heats the oil fine to temp set on thermostat but will not re fire when oil temp drops unless I push the high limit button. Don't know if the problem is the themostat or high limit...

Sounds like the thermostat is working because it does heat to the right temperature, right? The high limit switch is to shut it down when it gets too hot, so why that helps the unit relight and heat up is strange? Is this gas or electric? Since hitting the reset or high limit button is what is working, I would start there, and replace that... I don't think either part is super expensive, so replacing both wouldn't be too expensive, especially since you have one of the best fryers ever made... Keating is number one in my book, and I know they are expensive to start with, but these two parts shouldn't be much....however I would start with the high limit switch or reset button... If you need a part, we can get you a price....I'm Susan with Restaurant Equipment Outlet, Cincinnati, Ohio, 888-542-5959, or you can ask for Paul too. Thanks, Susan REO

Overhead light, controlled by a switch, will not turn off. Stays on.

Obviously your switch is broken internally. You'll need to turn off the breaker to the light which will be evident when it goes off. Then change out the switch. Turn breaker back on to restore. I'm assuming that this light/switch worked once upon a time and that it was wired right.

The element will show infinite resistence if defective. Overload switch.....Do you mean High Limit T/Stat? Use your ohm meter across terminals- should read closed circuit...0 ohms. If not, push red reset button...if clicks once, is now reset and contactors will close and unit will heat. If always clicks, replace limit t/stat Like wise, check themostat--should click once for heat demand and check cicuit same as limit t/stat. May have wire burned off terminal connector at element.
