Question about Brother MFC-8220 Fax

1 Answer

Network faxing from Mac

I have the NC-9100h network card installed and the MFC-8220 is recognized by the Macs in the network as a printer, and otherwise works perfectly fine. However, we'd like to be able to fax out via the network. Is this even possible?

I do not believe you can fax out through your network on this model. Please visit www.brother.com and go through the links to find your owners manual and network manual. You should find this information there.

How can I get my Windows PC to see my printer(s) on my Mac OS X network?

I am sure this question has arisen more than once, as to just how to locate and use the network printer in your Mac OS X network,so you can print from your Windows PC. After all, the Macs you have in your network print with no problem, why not the PC?

But nothing seems to work, that you have tried. So what to do?

Well, the answer comes with a simple yet very effective technology implemented by Apple Inc., just to address this issue.

It is a zero configuration networking protocol known as Bonjour.

Bonjour formerly known as Rendevous, was implemented from the Zeroconf (Zero-configuration) service delivery protocol and first introduced by Apple in its software with the release of the Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar system.

In lay terms, what "Zero Configuration Networking" means to you, is that you do not have to be computer geek or guru, to simply install or configure this software, because it was designed for the most part to automatically discover computers, devices, and services on local IP networks.

The "local IP network" being described here, is your own network, whether it is in your home, home office or anywhere you have a network setup.

What makes Bonjour so efficient, is that it can work with PCs in order to work with devices connected to Macs. To use it, all you need to do is install the software to your PC. Macs with Mac OS X versions from 10.2 to 10.6, of course, already have Bonjour as a built in feature.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how do I use Bonjour to discover printers on my Windows PC(s)?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It really is a simple as 1 -2-3.

1.) Download Bonjour - You can simply search for it by name through
Google or your favorite web search engine, or
click the link below to install in on your PC.
Download and Install Bonjour for Windows

2.) Install Bonjour - Simple enough, install it once the download is
complete. In the example below, I use my Epson
NX415 printer as a network printer on a Mac OS X
network, that needs to be discovered by a Toshiba
Laptop with Windows Vista Sp2 also a part of that
network.

3.) Launch Bonjour to discover the printer(s) in your network -

a.) Introduction Screen:

You will be very satisfied when you see how little
effort you have to put into discovering the network
printer on your PC with the Bonjour Printer Wizard.

**Note: Keep in mind, the network printer must be properly
connected, turned on and functional, otherwise Bonjour
will not discover your networked printer with your PC.**

b.) Printer Discovered:

Printer in Mac OS X network, if working and turned
on... Should be discovered by Bonjour right away..

c.) Printer Driver not needed:

A really nice feature with Bonjour:
You really don't need to have the print driver software for the
discovered printer. Bonjour will identify the printer, its
location on the Mac OS X network and will use a
Generic/Postscript identity due to a print driver for the
PC not being needed.

d.) Summary of discovered network printer:

Final screen for the Bonjour Printer Wizard. Just click
the Finish button and that is all it should take.

Done!
Now open any document run a test print..
on and get to printing with the newly discovered
Mac OS X network printer on your PC.

Now, that you know, no more guessing, on how to find
that elusive Mac OS X network printer for your PC.

Happy Printing!

How to add hp 2025 printer on mac laptop via wireless network?

Hi. There are two steps. First the printer must be connected to the wireless network - see the installation instructions that came with the printer. The mac is not involved in this part. Until you get it done you will not be able to do anything else.
Second. make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your printer installed on the Mac (this applies to any printer - not just your HP). Once the drivers are installed, go to System preferences and select "Print & Fax". and hen click on the + sign to add a new printer.
Wait a moment or tweo and the printer's name should pop up. Click it's name then wait for the drivers to be identified - this can take several minutes so be patient. As it's an HP you will probably get a bonjour connection but a word of warning, I have had more trpouble getting Macs and HP ptinters to work reliably over WiFi than any other make.

I have a new MacBook Pro and cannot get my Brother printer to work with it. The computer recognizes the printer but does not print.

Hi,
Did you install the Mac driver for MFC? The MFC comes with driver for windows and Mac. Place the Mac Driver disk to DVD slot and run the installation for your MFC printer. Follow the instruction to complete the installation.
When you try to print something, make sure the MFC printer is selected.
If you've done all of this and still not able to print, please turn off your MFC, wait 15 seconds and turn on again to see problem solve or not.
Hope this will help. Thanks for reading.

I lost my network fax and scanning when I upgraded to Win 7 as Brother had no support for Win7 and this printer. Very disappointing.

However, I recently downloaded the MFC-8370DN install package from the Brother website and installed it on my Win7 64 bit Asus laptop. The installer couldn't find my MFC8820DN, but I manually entered the IP address (192.168.0.100 in my case). The install completed cleanly, after a reboot I can now start Brother Control Centre 3 and scan and fax from my 8820DN over the network. All good, no need to buy a new printer just yet...

I have a brothers mfc8220, i am having trouble hooking it up wireless. What am i doing wrong?

The only way you can connect this wireless is if you either connect the USB cable to your router directly with a USB cable or by connecting the printer to a computer and then share it over the network.

Printer connected but not printing.

If you are not sure of the location of the router, it occurs to me that you could not be certain that the printer is configured therein.

If there is a person who normally manages the router which location you don't know, then they should also configure the printer to incorporate it and the two macs as part of your network, or your printer will never work.

ANy solution to the lack of fuji drivers for new macs and OS?

4500N can't be recognize with an Intel Mac, because the Appletalk doesn't work. My solution to print: I've got a powerPC as an interface between Imac intel and fuji network adapter. The pictro driver is installed on both machines. On The Intel, The Appletalk is connected on Airport. On the PowerPc, The Appletalk is connected on Ethernet. Ethernet cable between powerPC and pictro network adapter. SCSI2 cable between PNA and the 4500. Of course, auto calibrating + eye-one color calibrating. WELL!! it works.
