Question about Sony STR-DA3300ES

I am trying to connect an Apple TV to my STR-DA3300ES via HDMI. I get video, but no audio. I've been through all the setup menus on both the receiver and the Apple TV unit.

I am not sure how you made the connections so please do it again using this standard procedure so that i am sure all connections are correct . this will make me proceed with your problem in more organised fashion.

  • Turn off your HDMI TV. Unplug the television's power cord from the electrical outlet.

  • Turn the television around so the back of the TV is facing you.
  • Turn off your AV receiver. Unplug the receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet.
  • Turn the AV receiver around so the back of the receiver is facing you.
  • Plug one end of a HDMI cable into the "HDMI MONITOR OUT" jack on the back of your AV receiver. Your AV receiver's HDMI jack may also be labeled "HDMI."
  • Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" jack on the back of your HDMI TV. Your TV's HDMI jack may also be labeled "HDMI INPUT."
  • Plug the HDMI TV's power cord into a electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the television. If your HDMI TV has a "Stereo" option, enable it by pressing "Menu" and navigating to that option. The "Stereo" option may be under the heading "Audio."
  • Plug the AV receiver's power cord into a electrical outlet. Turn on the receiver. Set the receiver to "AUX," "HDMI" or the setting that allows input from the HDMI jack.
  • Adjust the volume on both the HDMI TV and AV receiver. You should hear audio from the receiver's speakers. If you don't hear any audio, check the AV receiver's settings and the HDMI cable connection.

this should solve problem , if now you have the same problem post a comment so we can proceed with diagnosis procedure

RE: Denon AVR 3300 - I cannot get the system setup menu to display on Phillips P50PFP5332D tv screen? All connected components work and sound great, but I cannot see Denon's Setup menu on tv to a

I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv.
The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source.
Hope that helps!

Apple tv to optical audio on avr 1601

You need to assign the optical input to the video input you are using. It's under the 'Input Setup' menu.

Or use HDMI, it will output the audio thru the HDMI connection. Once again assign the input under the Input Setup menu (press the Menu button on remote to access setup menus)

I can't speak on whether or not the apple tv has such a setting but the Bluray players does. You go into the bluray player's settings and change the audio output.Your choices should be 2 ch possibly hdmi, bitstream, pcm, and auto. Try hdmi, 2 ch, and pcm because if you have it on auto you might not get sound via an hdmi cable and it's probably not bitstream but try bitstream if none of the others work.

I am trying to connect my new apple tv to my panasonic bt205 ht and then to my samsung tv. As I have only i HDMI socket in my Ht I bought a HDMI splitter. This doesn't seen to work. If I connect the...

The BT205 only has a HDMI Out so you need to connect both your BT205 and Apple TV to your TV either directly or through your splitter (depending how many HDMI Inputs your TV has).

You then need to connect either the Digital or Analogue Audio Port from your Apple TV to your BT205 and select the Audio Output from your BT205 as detailed on Page 27 of the manualat the link below.

http://tda.panasonic-europe-service.com/docs/2z4e3b157ez3z2a0dbz656ez706466z21z3703f025f4fa80ffdb9e5a7957895ca96b778f45/tsn2/data/ALL/SCBT205/OI/812908/rqt9445-b.pdf

This will give you the picture from your Apple TV to your TV via the HDMI and the Apple TV sound to your BT205 via the Audio Port.

I would like to connect my my hp laptop to my Sony Grand WEGA KDP-57WS550 57 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television to watch netflix

You need to connect your PC to either your TV or your receiver. Also, if you have XBox, you can watch Netflix through it (thought I'd suggest, just in case).

Take your PC (or take a photo of your available outputs from your PC) and a photo of your available inputs (on your TV or receiver) to Best Buy or similar computer store. They can help you learn which connections you need.

Most likely you'll need a DVI to HDMI cable for video, and maybe a separate audio cable from your headphone connection on your PC to your TV (or receiver). You'll only need a separate cable for audio if your HDMI input on your TV does not support audio.

I am going through this same problem with my TV connecting Apple TV. I am checking now whether my old rear projection tv's HDMI input supports audio (same as yours). I've connected Apple TV to my rear projection TV. I have video, but no sound. Either my TV doesn't support HDMI audio, or I need to change a setting on the TV to enable that sound to work. If the TV does not support HDMI audio, I will need to connect Apple TV directly to my receiver via a digital optical cable for sound.

Hope this helps.

Trying to connect HP M9060N and Sharp Aquos through Denon AVR 1508, only get 'no signal' response. Have HDMI 1 set to DVD, HDMI 2 to AUX, HDMI 3 to TV, which is order of HDMI outlets on receiver.

Depending on your TV inputs, you are better off to run video componenets through TV first then, connect TV to reciever via digital optical. Recievers have video pass through but, noyt the best route. You can use TV's menu to choose what you watch and, only have the one output from TV to reciever. Make sure you scan through TV and reciever menus to make sure you are selecting the right channel.

I have an HD PVR (Explorer 8300) and have connected to my Samsung TV using HDMI cable. My question is can I connect my SONY STR DE605 receiver or do I need a new one?

Depending on your tv output, you shpuld be able to hook your TV to receiver via audio output. Running your video components through your receiver will not give you the best performance anyway. Run your HD DVR to TV the way you have it then, if it's possible to run audio out from TV, via, RCA, digital optical, etc., to your receiver. The sound will be transfered through the TV. You may also be able to utilize component out from your HD DVR and a separate audio cable.

I have a new Denon AVR 1911 receiver all hooked up to my input devices and output thru a single HDMI cable to my Samsung LCD tv.... problem with getting audio from my DVD player: my DVD player is older...

Not likely that all those things are faulty.

The TV and DVD player make and model would be helpful to know. I would recommend running its BEST digital audio to the receiver and its stereo analog audio to the TV just in case you want to watch and hear the DVD in a lo-fi setting without the Denon. I generally advocate for connecting anything high-end (audio or video) ONLY to equipment that can use it or enhance it. Otherwise you may just be wasting expensive cable and adding unnecessary hops and connections that can fail.

Why do you want the audio to go from the DVD to the TV through the Denon? Are there no speakers on the Denon? Modern TV's have lots of inputs for the flexibility I recommend but rarely have decent audio or speakers.

Video but no audio

This receiver does not support audio via HDMI. You need to connect BD player via spdif cable. Use optical or coax depending on what does the BD player support - receiver supports both.

Try this:
Go into the menu settings by pressing "Receiver" --> "6-Video" --> "HDMI Audio" select "Amp," not "Amp+TV"
Yeah, it makes total sense to have a very important audio setting in the video menu.
