SOURCE: Vhs to dvd burning
You cannot burn a DVD on the XBV243. It is NOT a DVD recorder. You CAN record onto a VHS tape from a DVD (copy-protected commercial DVDs cannot be recorded)

you have to finalize the disc first.once it is finalized you can not record any more material on it,so make sure you record everything you want on a disc. you can maximize disc space by changing speeds on the dvd recorder. for example: if you have 5 hrs of stuff on a tape, set the dvd recorder for 6 hrs or more recording time.the quality should be ok [depends on how good of quality you want] if you set the speed for 2 hrs, your quality would be better, but obviously everything won't fit.
hope this helps

SOURCE: Dub VHS to DVD
I am not sure why the DVD recorder is stopping after 25 mins of recording. However, once a disk is finalized all the remaining space is unrecordable. That is why your computer is showing the disk as full. The same applies when finalizing a CD. As for the first problem, check to see what record speed you are using. XP is 1 hr, SP 2hr and so on. But stopping after 25 minutes is weird. Even if you use a quick record button, (aka OTR) the recording is usually done in 30 minute increments. Try it again. If it still is only recording for 25 minutes, you may want to contact the manufacture's customer service or tech support. Hope it helps.

I found a installation and operation manual for you online in which you can download the manual free (if the direct link does not work and you go to the website, you may get one survey question to answer before it lets you download the manual. It is only one question and it does not ask for you to register for the site or provide any personal information). The following link should open the manual directly in pdf format in which you can save it to your computer. If for some reason the link does not open properly, the following link will take you to the website where the manual was found. You can find the information you are needing help with located on page 33 of the manual.
Please ensure that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have this software you can download it for free at the link provided. Make sure that your computer system meets the minimum system requirements and download the appropriate version that your system supports.
I hope you find this information helpful and solves any problems you may have or answers any future questions about your product. I wish you the very best and please feel free to ask if you need further assistance.
If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You
