Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a stakable whirlpool thin twin 98, and it fills with water normally but doesn't do anything after that (no sounds at all). I have already replaced the "lid switch" for a new one, but nothing changed. The dryer is working fine, but not the washer. That problem started since I moved it from my old house and I did it laying the machine down on its back..

Thanks Ginko for your help. If I cannot lay that washer what you recommend to reach the motor underneath? Don't you think it could be also a belt problem?

This is a stakable washer/dryer whirlpool, the dryer is a front loader and it s at the top. The washer is at the bottom and it s a top loader.
So, I still reach the motor and belts from the rear panel?

The motor is not starting. If the machine has been laying in the incorrect position it may be a wiring problem. The motor is accessed from underneath, and if the appliance is stacked it may result quite complicate.

After reaching motor, wiring must be tested. The motor itself must be tested by Ohming it. Parts location and testing are the same as for this similar Maytag stack washer shown in this service manual

Parts numbers are different. To locate parts enter model number here.

I am really sorry. This machine is obviously a front loader. I gave you instructions for the top loader (direct drive) that I was doing in the other thread.

With this machine the belt and the motor are accessed altogether. The problem is likely belt or motor.

To access belt and motor remove the rear access panel held by four hex head screws. The procedure is the same as the one for the Maytag illustrated in the service manual provided in my previous post.

The top loader has no belt, it is direct drive. If it is a top loader, then the motor is accessed from the bottom. If you give me the full model number I will find the schematics for the proper model.

The washer is a top load direct drive. THere is no belt, the only belt used is from the dryer. The motor is accessed from underneath. Here the cabinet. There is no panel at the back. The front panel comes back after removing the top. The motor is at the base and it is accessed from bottom.

If the washer has been left laying on one side for a long time, the gearcase may have also been damaged. The first part to check is the motor.

    Here all parts and diagrams.

12 hours is not such a long time. I thought the machine had been stored on one side.

Appliances can get damaged when they do not stay upright. Hopefully the problem is only a lose connector. The only way to find out is inspecting the inside of the machine. Check connectors at motor, and the connectors to control module at the top.

If you need a technician to do the job use the number listed on the owners manual.

Why doesn't my whirlpool thin twin fill up with enough water to was a large load?

No cannot over ride set at large doe the machine fill to a certain level then stop if so operating correctly if it never stops filling with water then there is a leak in the fill system either a hole in pressure switch hose it popped off tub or water leaking out thru drain system pump or siphoning thru hose again if unit starts to agitate there is enough water in unit per design

Whirlpool Thin Twin randomly skips agitation during the cycle.

Did you ever figure this out? Mine agitates but instead doesn't start spinning and draining unless I open the lid. It then "clicks" and starts but it is strange that I have to do this to get it to spin.

Whirlpool ite6234d thin twin could someone tell me in detail where the belt is located in the washer?

I can not find your model number that you posted.
I can tell you that all whirpool thin twins up to last year were direct drive with no belt except for the dryer section. Whirlpool stackers from the early eighties did have a washer belt if yours is this old replace the entire machine.

I have a electric whirlpool thin twin. It fills with water and agitates...then nothing. No drain, or spin.

check the lid switch, open the lid and on the right side you'll see a hole in the top panel, stick a screw driver in it,push down, you should hear a click,or close the lid and open it a couple of inches and close it,do this a few times,no clicking sound bad lid switch.

Water not filling on washer

the inlet filter is probably clogged restricted and/or inhibited flow of water into your machine.
These things happen, and cleaning out the filter is a good first step to finding the problem.

Whirlpool thin twin problem

First be sure you're getting power to the motor this could cause both problems. If getting power then
sounds like you have 2 problems.
On the heating problem be sure you have 220 volts at the power block, check the heating element , thermostats & high temp cutoff with an ohmmeter. Also check the centrifical switch on the motor it keeps the heat off for safety till the motor is up to speed so the fan is working.
Check lid switch some machines won't do anything but fill with the lid open . To check lid switch push the the switch down with a small screwdriver. If switch is ok check the coupler between the motor & transmission it can cause no agitate or spin. If all these are ok you may have a transmission problem. Last resort may be timer or wireing.
